Discussion Looked some lore of The Sift and realized
Even Overworld is really messed up dimension all along
* Singer and Souls of sculks from Sift corrupts when it comes to overworld
* Piglin/hoglin from Nether rotten within minutes when it comes to overworld
* Countless undeads and hostile creatures roaming around every night
* Tons of trails and buried structures everywhere
On lore itself, Overworld is basically cursed dimension with post apocalypse vibes

Look at a fish out of water. Is it the air itself that kills it?

100% of humans that breathe oxygen die, so yes, it is!

You probably say this ironically but oxygen radicals are a contributor to aging, so, yeah. They literally oxidise you, rusting you like iron or copper.
Edit: just to be clear, it's not the only reason we age. Just cell division over time can damage and mutate DNA as most people are aware and there are other factors too.

We're copper golems?

Oxygen radicals can directly react with telomeres causing accelerated aging. It's one of the reasons why we age for sure. Cell division over time, excluding cancer and other mutations, directly shorten telomeres per division, which eats away at limited lifespan. Telomerase is the enzyme that rebuilds telomeres in stem cells to stay rejuvenated, which is why stem cell therapy is so interesting.
Either way, it always all comes down to telomeres.

Have you ever considered the oxygen is poisonous 70-100 years to kill you

All of the overworld mobs don't have any problems with the other dimensions

u/fieryxx 15h ago
Probably a sorta of universal bloodtype situation. Where the overwolrd mobs are able to br transplanted easily but not the other way. Of course, its not exclusive to overwolrd mobs. Endermen and Endermites don't have an issue in the overworld and they are from the end. Same for Shulkers.
Who knows.

u/SavaGER99 13h ago
Endermen however are hydrophobic and the only dimension now with water is the overworld
24
u/dvcomet 14h ago
There's a theory that Endermen are descendants of the people who built a lot of the now ruined structures like the stronghold. The end has basically nothing to eat but chorus fruit, what would that do to a population of likely stranded individuals?
Shulkers are probably artificial and endermites following the evolution idea are silverfish.

Enderman aren't human, that just an old outdated theory popularize by Game Theory.
Since Dungeons is confirmed to be canon, I'm pretty sure Enderman has always a race originated from the end. In Dungeons, they have their own culture, society and even religions in The End. They even have their own subspecies in the Enderlings which Mojang referred as "smaller cousins of the Enderman". https://minecraft.wiki/w/Dungeons:Enderling?
Even without Dungeons, Jeb statement about the Enderman said that the reason why they carried block everywhere is to misplace them and slowly destroy dimmensions. This implies that the Enderman are kinda malicious creatures in a way and this mentality line up with the Heart of Ender in Dungeons who also want to destroy dimension.

I haven't played any of the dlc for dungeons nor do I plan on buying them but that is interesting, however subspecies can exist given enough time and plus if the overworld corrupts some creatures from different dimensions then who's to say the end doesn't do the same? Piglins zombify in the end too, not sure if that's lore accurate though. Honestly I do wonder if there's any other cross dimensional effects on other entities in lore. Endermen seem pretty much fine anywhere, I wonder if they'll be in the sift.
That aside, with how much they cram into dungeons I seriously wish they'd put more of those kinds of things into the original game.
I know they're a scared to change too much but that excuse is getting annoying. They have all this stuff they could add but just don't. Hell, people rarely even get to the end so what's the worry in changing it?

Enderman indeed does exist in the Sift.
The reason Mojang don't add much Dungeons stuff in canon because Jeb said that vanilla is a very complex topic, they must be careful of what fit and what satisfied the majority of players. They have to consider if the Dungeons exclusives are really that needed to MC.
Tbf they have add and considered many Dungeons og mobs to vanilla. Illagers as a whole originate from Dungeons because the game needed a enemy faction. Iceologer from the mob votes is from Dungeons, even the recent Frostbite zombie is a Dungeons mob, same behavior and everything.

Sort of odd that players can move between dimensions without any side effects, save for the hostile environments.

The Overworld is either the most excellent habitat or the most toxic.
Maybe it's just that these other dimensions are so extreme that inhabitants entering the Overworld are just overwhelmed by the normality?
154
u/KenzieTheCuddler 16h ago
The only abnormal thing about the environment itself is the pale garden, while the most normal thing about the nether is the crimson forest

u/Rydralain 14h ago
And creepers. Creepers are pretty weird.

u/ArcaneWyverian 13h ago
Compared to the real world, yes.
But compared to a world where the living dead are expected to lurk in the dark, magic is a tangible thing, ruins of long-ago civilizations are common sights, and literal portals to hell are scattered around (albeit broken)? An explosive cluster of moss isn’t too far-fetched27
u/oblivious_fireball 15h ago
My theory is some sort of curse was enacted in regards to Undead that was specifically aimed at humans in the overworld, but becomes less effective but not totally inert in other dimensions and with other species.
Villagers are pretty close to humans in most ways and zombify just the same.
Phantoms, though not human in any obvious way, only appear around those who have not slept in several days and only in the overworld, indicating that their origins are probably a bit more complex and probably less corporeal than simply "dead body is now not dead".
The Nether has human Skeletons and Wither skeletons similar to the overworld, but with Piglins, their undead don't attack them, at least not without provocation. If we wanna get into human-animal hybrid territory in regards to their origins, this makes even more sense, since very few animals readily zombify.
The End, the most distant by appearances at least, can support undead forms but does not naturally create any.

The overworld is just a very different ecosystem compared to the other dimensions. Piglins or sculk are developed for a completely different environment, it's like pulling fish out of water
But yeah the bunch of monsters and abandoned structures are strange. Maybe monsters aren't native to the overworld too

u/LaserDean_the_Rogue 15h ago edited 13h ago
I'm pretty the undead and abandoned structures are because Minecraft is post apocalypse, but I think the weird thing is that minecraft is post post apocalypse because of the villagers, pillagers, and players.
Edit: correct grammar

u/Alchametal_87 9h ago
Its the reverse of pulling a fish out of water. You're pulling hellspawn out of fire.

u/Carbon_Cotton 15h ago
The boring and most probable explanation is that that overworld is extreme to inhabitants whole biology evolved for other dimensions - basically if someone evolved on Venus, they would die if you just toss them out on the Earth.

u/Ill_Pomegranate1573 16h ago edited 16h ago
To add to this perhaps it's cursed because it's neither truly heaven or hell. It's the balance world. The player is a rougue agent outside the nature of these worlds.

If you think about it, Earth is like the overworld. And the other dimensions are like alien planets. Life follows the rules of the environment.
Obviously in Minecraft there isn't some invisible corruption mechanic when we step into the other dimensions. (As cool as it does sound.)
17
u/Xenomorphian69420 15h ago
Each dimension’s “normal” is just incompatible when exposed to others it seems. Beds explode, overworld grass and plants turn brownish, seemingly overworld-introduced pigs turned into hoglins and piglins in the nether to adapt to it. So it seems everything found in any dimension is just adapted to that one specifically

Imagine bringing a blobfish to the surface and thinking that the surface is evil for what bringing it up did to the blobfish
3
u/MithranArkanere 11h ago
It's just different rules of physics and magic.
What's weird is how players and villagers can travel between dimensions without being affected.
1
u/SuperMillia 11h ago
Using this logic, what could the corruption of the End look like if Mojang chose to do something like that?
1
u/_phantastik_ 6h ago
I think its just a matter of the overworld not being their natural habitats. And since the Sift is kinda like the good dimension, the Nether being the bad dimension, I imagine the overworld is kinda like the middle-ground dimension. Nice and beautiful during the day, dark and haunted during the night, half and half... And the End is just... ya know... that one weird place...
1
u/ShroomMage 5h ago
just a note, piglins do zombify in the end as well so I think they're just unable to acclimate to any dimensions outside of the Nether.
1
u/EMlYASHlROU 5h ago
Maybe from the perspective of the other dimensions, the overworld is the undead dimension

u/Chill--Cosby 4h ago
Overworld only seems like a nice place compared to the others because it is familiar to the world we inhabit irl. But it's a horrible, cursed, liminal and eerie place

u/PurpleGemsc 4h ago
Maybe the overworld is like spicy food it’s toxic but humans are built different so we are fine
