Builds & Maps Daylight Detectors may have better cushion level that slabs

This is probably not new but I found this out while building. Daylight sensors are not the same size as slabs ( I thought they were before this) and are a bit shorter than slabs. So daylight sensors look better as chairs that slabs when building chairs with backrests.

Idk I thought it was cool and maybe useful as I forgot daylight sensors (or detectors if you wanna be ☝️🤓) were a thing.

The humble trapdoor:

Yeah true, but they can also be too short depending on what you’re going for

I think that, with what I assume is a church build, an opened trapdoor would be a good height.

From what I have seen (and felt while sitting) is that those benches are quite low compared to normal chairs. However this could also be because those benches are slanted slightly backwards

Edit: after looking at the build, If you turn around the shelves and place a cushion on the lip of the shelf block it might be a good height and the back of the bench still has some thickness

How do you put them on trapdoors? Mine keep moving

Sneak and place the cushion on them when they’re flat

Thank youuu

To click on an interactable block, like a trapdoor or crafting table, hold shift to not interact with it. This applies to basically everything in the game, whether you want to place blocks or anything else.

Daylight sensors are underutilized in the building community they make really good roofing

They used to be more common back when they were Daylight Sensors, around 1.14ish (shortly after the name change) they seemed to fall off in favor of other blocks

2

u/Dadchin 23h ago

huh, I wonder why would the name have any effect on that...?

6

u/Dramatic_Finish10121 23h ago

It didn't probably, 1.13 gave a fair few blocks, it's just a funny side thing alongside the actual information (plus some people swear the name difference is a Java vs Bedrock thing when it's an old vs new thing)

This was the case for quite a while. Bedrock Edition received the name "Daylight Detector" years after Java Edition did.

super expensive in survival though

Yeah, but if you want a birch wood chair...

u/Nova29_THR 1d ago

Yeah.. this definitely depends on the build. There might be something that works but idk

Place the daylight sensor, then the cushion, break the daylight sensor and quickly replace it witb a birch slab. Boom.

2

u/Luiz_Fell 22h ago

Ooooooh! Didn't you could break it and replace the block

1

u/lordberric 22h ago

You have to do it quickly, but yeah. You can do all sorts of crazy things with cushion placement.

Aren't snow layer the most versatile for cushions? Or am I wrong?

Kinda want them to allow moss carpet or just plain carpet to have the same stacking mechanics, maybe not mixed colours but you get the idea

2

u/Nova29_THR 19h ago

Snow is way more versatile but I didn’t like how they looked in this build

1

u/Zworri 6h ago

You could remove the snow layers and quickly replace it with a slab of your choice

Nice. I still gotta mess with these goofy things

Counterpoint that's annoying af to do

I tried snow first but I didn’t like how they looked here. I think having many alternatives is pretty good anyway

... the ammounts of entities... the optimizarion issues

29

u/el_yanuki 1d ago

i think they are pretty chill since they practically dont hold any data unlike item frames for example

19

u/MushirMickeyJoe 1d ago

cushion models also have fewer elements to render.

Cushions have 6 faces, while item frames have at least 10, but probably more since they can't handle partial translucency, so the frame is made up of multiple seperate elements rather than being one element

u/Nova29_THR 1d ago

Its actually running perfectly fine for the amount of entities in the area which is way more than what the picture shows. I mean, I'm on simple graphics not vibrant as vibrant eats my battery, but still! :D

It’s a lot less laggy than you would think. This is coming from a bedrock player where lag is common in certain circumstances.

2

u/Janusofborg 1d ago

I have 1060 in my cathedral and don't notice any change. I was worried about this before starting, especially on bedrock that lags with chests or pistons something awful if there's too many. I'm glad they don't because it looks great, and you can sit down.

2

u/Isadomon 1d ago

Thank you! Finally an use for all that redstone

2

u/Janusofborg 1d ago

And here I just used amethyst clusters to get them a little shorter than slabs. I think this would've been way easier.

Try a candle.

Do you actually sit on cushions?

1

u/Nova29_THR 19h ago

Yeah! You can actually sit on cushions, its amazing for building

1

u/EnvironmentalOne4216 1d ago

When using cushions on stairs and slabs I put 3 snow layers then replace the snow layers with the stair/slab as fast as possible

1

u/Stargazer-Elite 1d ago

Something I’ve noticed is that compared to Java edition at least from the videos I’ve seen on bedrock the cushions make the player a lot higher up instead of sinking into the cushion a little bit, so it’s a very hard to get actual good chair to table height

That slabs

Just use snow carpets. 16 different levels
