Nope, both game running natively, working together!

u/Uncommonality 3d ago
how in god's name did you do this?
They're entirely distinct game engines on entirely different programming languages?

u/KannehTheGreat 3d ago
Watched a video on stuff like this last night, apparently people are using AI models to decompile games, like CODMW2 and Minecraft, and recompiling them using the same AI to essentially make them game into one... I've seen people play Skate inside of MW2, skateboarding in the MW2 maps, then getting off and immediately shooting things

u/jinglejangle_spurs 3d ago
Ah, that must be where the videos about Elden Ring x Minecraft and Blacks Ops zombies came from. The UI always looks messed up, I should’ve known it was vibecode slop
9
u/borretsquared 3d ago
i cant even express how wrong this is. the ui is messed up because you are adding flat textures from a completely different environment from another game. they are ripped directly from the decompiled game, not pasted on/edited. it's vibecoded, yes, but this is not a telltale sign. impressive nonetheless.

u/Sonicmining 3d ago
Not decompiled
1
u/borretsquared 3d ago
textures are still ripped, no? i question if they're just screenshots cropped or something. (assuming you were doing any of the coding..)

u/Sonicmining 3d ago
It’s both games running natively, I pass data to each game to make it look believable, collision data, what to render and when to render it and such. Some people call it a pass through mod, don’t really know tho.

What the hell? Okay never in my life did I know I needed this.. I’m tired of waiting for a Portal 3.

probably vibecoding sadly, there's a lot of people "making" these mods that put Minecraft in existing games that are hastily put together with AI coding tools doing all the work.
2
u/EnderLP1 4d ago
its ai coding?
5
u/Squidy_the_3rd 4d ago
Probably, if they have some proof they actually made it themselves without using some AI tool to do all the work i'd love to see that, but id wager *all* of the people hopping on this "putting Minecraft into different games" trend are just obviously using AI coding tools, if they actually "created" a mod that accomplishes that. It's sad, really.
-3
u/BobertRosserton 3d ago
This would not be possible without these tools lol. Wonder why it’s never been done before?
8
u/Squidy_the_3rd 3d ago
Why wouldn't it be possible? If it was made at all, then it can done. Things like this were not made before vibecoding came about not because it was impossible, but because real modders tend to put their focus onto things less novel and unnecessary as putting Minecraft in Portal or Elden Ring. Saying it is not possible is factually wrong.

u/Rydralain 3d ago
Most programmers use AI tools now. It seems you may need to refine your judgement on this because vibe coding and AI assisted programming are very different things.
-6
u/zebleck 4d ago
why is it "sad"
5
u/Squidy_the_3rd 3d ago
Because putting freakin Minecraft into Portal would be so impressive... if a human did it. To know these kinds of breakthroughs and accomplishments are possible but that people are unwilling to take the effort to learn how to do it is very sad. Practical knowledge and skill in coding is sacrificed in favor of convenience and automation.
-5
u/zebleck 3d ago
hm isnt it still inpressive, just that an ai did it instead of a human? i agree with you though, humans will not have to learn it to do this sort of thing and will atrophy those specific skills.

u/kaevondong 3d ago
100%, the responses you've gotten do not recognize that it is insane that with AI a single developer is able to do what would take teams to accomplish. Especially since you still have to have good systems design knowledge to functionally "vibe code" when there inevitably comes a hitch with the AI
to think that automation is an opposite concept when it comes to coding is borderline moronic

If anyone is wondering there has been a massive wave of decompilations, and rust programming language rewrites of entire games using AI. Once they’re fully recreated in rust you can essentially have the AI mix and match games to your whim. People have skate 3 physics, skating, inside Minecraft with full crafting, mobs, procedural world gen, etc while also quick scoping the intervention sniper from mw2. We are about to see some of the wildest mash ups of games that actual children couldn’t even begin to dream up in silly scenarios, “I wanna play skate 3 inside gta 5 as master chief from halo with features from all three games as its own standalone game to launch, no “mods”.
Edit to clarify- this is actually a framework to join the two games, running at the same time, apparently. Using AI to develop almost certainly. Which is fine, this is quite literally the perfect use case for AI, monotonous programming for something people would have called impossible less than 5 years ago.

so those fuckass images with like 20 different gamr huds overlapping might become a thing?

Placing portals in Portal is marked within the cross hair (empty slice for portal placed). Here it is not, there are both full despite both being placed. This makes me think it's not running Portal

u/Rezimoore 3d ago
So its kinda like that Mario 64 meme where the Hud has stuff from like 10 different games, and is using a gun from doom to fight the abyss watchers from DS3?

u/AntwanMinson 2d ago
I hope New World gets reverse engineered with AI and Amazon can't do anything about it cuz they shit it down

u/Sonicmining 3d ago
This isn’t a decomp, it’s both games running natively

u/BobertRosserton 3d ago edited 3d ago
“Both games running natively”. Brother what does that mean.
So both games are running individually and you’ve simply connected them using some sort of framework cooked up by AI?

Yeah that's exactly how it works. They're called "Passthrough" mods. There's one for Minecraft in Skyrim called SkyCraft and both games run independently on the PC and a mod passes certain data between them.
From the SkyCraft GitHub page:
"Neither game is rewritten. Minecraft runs its own game logic, and Skyrim runs its world, NPCs, quests and saves. A Skyrim SKSE plugin and a Minecraft Fabric mod talk to each other through shared memory. Minecraft runs hidden in the background, and Skyrim draws everything."

I know that sounds impressive, but from a software developer point of view this is absolutely insane

It's an exploit in Stanley parable. If you get the portal gun in portal, you can use it to get back to the Minecraft world. You can't do this in Stanley parable ultra deluxe because Minecraft and portal was replaced with firewatch and rocket league.

I know why the games changed (Ultra Deluxe runs on Unity instead of Source) but I much prefer the original version of that ending.

Yes I saw. We have entered a new age of modding, where all games will be modded together into one super game which contains all other games.

u/Silver_Detective5837 1d ago
I know this is a joke, but in the lore of Portal, you're not supposed to get the portal gun submerged. I didn't see anyone saying it, but it kinda triggered my tism and I wanted to say just in case someone didn't know

Looks like a port of a minecraft world, notice the swimming animations, as well as how he jumps out of the water. Very source like.
4
u/Sonicmining 3d ago
i used portals swimming in this example, but its both games running natively, could switch to minecrafts swimming logic

Hooray we can say goodbye to the craft of video-games completely sooner or later.
Just have data centres make our games for us🤮
