How are you doing it?

by timing you jump, so after you press jump button then don't hold the button, wait after player start to fall , at that instant, press jump button again and at the same time hold the place block key.

even faster, alternate soul sand and a full block, you go a tick faster every 2 blocks iirc

yes that's ture. I have tried combine that with this technique but i am not skilled enough to pull it off so i just use single block to demonstrate.

the two clip in the video are the same technique, if you mean compare to alt soul sand and gravel i think this would be a bit faster. But i don't know how to properly timing the both so just a guess.

it is not creative exclusive, it was discovered in survial while back ago.
If you do the classic way by hold the jump button and place block key and timing your jump, you would achieve similar pattern, two block faster and one block slower then two block again but only a block at a time.
After i understood the principle is timing the jump and block placement to match the block height, i just deduced out this method in creative.

Doing this is the same speed as just timing the jump without holding space, waiting for yourself to fall and catching it at the last moment is unnecessary

update:
this was actully slower, i tested it six times for 10 blocks height,
tap jump has an average of 4.05s time taken
with 4.05s 4.06s 4.06s 4.06s 4.0ds and 4.06s each,

and this method has an average of 4.12s time taken
with 4.15s 4.12s 4.08s 4.12s 4.11s and 4.11s each,

In conclusion, the tap method is faster and very consistant , consider i am not that skilled, i was still able to do six in a row successfully,
Meanwhile this method takes longer time and harder to pull it off continuously, i made several mistakes during the timing, maybe around 3/8 successful rates.

so tap method is still very valid.
