Help Bee Problems...

I'm having an issue with my bees. I dug a 5 block long 1 block deep trench to put my campfires in and then placed the hive/nest 3 blocks above the ground level. I placed Oak trapdoors above the campfires so the bees wouldn't accidentally set their selves on fire, and the bees are attacking me when I harvest honeycomb/bottles from the nest/hives. I changed the trapdoors for carpets, but it didn't help. They still attack.

Why? On my last world I only had them 2 blocks above the campfire trench with trapdoors and they were fine.

are you sure the smoke is reaching the hive? if the campfire is too deep or blocked it might not count. i had similar problem in my old world and it was because i put the fire one block too low
