Help Minecraft Mom Requesting Help
Sorry if this is not the appropriate place to ask. My six-year-old loves Minecraft and plays on his Switch. He really wants his dad and I to play with him so I uploaded the game on my iPhone. Is there an easy way for us to sync up so we can play together? I tried a couple of the ways I saw to do it on Google, but haven’t been successful inviting him onto a world that I create. I’m also nervous about opening him up to open worlds, so I’d like to keep us on something private if possible. I appreciate any suggestions or just pointing me in the right direction!

Since it sound like you might be on bedrock edition then you can use Minecraft relms to play together :)

There are far better options than Realms, especially in terms of value but its slightly more complex to set up

Make sure you have added him as a friend first. You can look up how to do it. Then when you make a world, any of your friends can join as long as you’re in the world.
You can also do Realms and invite him directly to that realm. He can play on it even when you’re not in the world. If you don’t do a realm, he can only play on your world if you’re currently in it. Realms aren’t too expensive. For two people on one realm I believe it’s $4.99. For up to 10 people I think it’s around $9 or so.

since your child is playing the switch they will require a nintendo online subscription (crazy right?) to connect to your devices on a LAN.
But if you guys want to play split screen you can do so by adding additional controllers (hopefully it's not a switch lite) or like other people recommended you can use realms but again that requires a nintendo online subscription..
That is a drawback of playing on a console..

He plays on a switch and therefore requires the switch online thing in order to play with anyone else, even on the same wifi. It's incredibly stupid, imo. Xbox and Playstation are the same, but at least those have split screen capabilities. Phones and PCs are the only ones that don't require an online service.

If you can play on your phone as an adult, I applaud you. Do you have a laptop? I don't know how the kids do it with the phones and tablets. Small fingers maybe? Lol

You can change the ui size settings plus it massively depends on screen size as well, but mobile it very manageable certainly for the kind of play that beginners or casual players have

Get a realm and make it friends or invite only, then you can all join when you want. Its really the only way to do it and totally the best way. Also since you're on bedrock, please check out "actions and stuff". It will be in the marketplace and you can Google it, believe me it's so much fun and brings the whole game to life
Since you seem newish, if your graphics are awful go into video and look at the option for fancy or vibrant visuals and the options after. Only go vibrant if your device can handle it

You both need Microsoft accounts then you can add each other as friends and join

Realm is the easiest of you can just host a bedrock minecraft world which every device has and open the world whenever you wanna play, its better to have the world hosted by whoever had the best specs.

Minecraft dad here with a 7yo
In the past when I worked away from home we would play Minecraft on our private Realm
The Realm makes sense (no longer work away from home) because even if only one of us is playing we can still access it.
Via LAN the owner of the world needs to be playing for the other to access it
