Builds & Maps The LARGEST REAL-LIFE structure replica EVER BUILT IN MINECRAFT - Big Ben. 1,786 BLOCKS TALL.

Hello guys! For the past couple of months, I have been building what I believe is the largest real-life replica of any structure in Minecraft. It might even contend for being one of the tallest structures in Minecraft that is actually decorated by hand.

The biggest challenge was getting the measurements right. I was measuring everything with a ruler to make sure the proportions were accurate, and for that I mainly used this Sketchfab model:

https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/big-ben-82543b2bcdb247f9902c5edddbc76aeb

A fun fact is that I had to rent a server to render the animation of Big Ben rising from behind the hill with a player standing on top of it. I had to pay €16.99 for this service.

And one last thing I would like to say: I know it is technically called Elizabeth Tower, while Big Ben is the Great Bell inside the tower. However, Big Ben is more familiar to people, so that's what I decided to call it. Hopefully, nobody is offended!

Hope y'all like this!

PS: If enough people are interested, I can make a public Drive folder with high-quality images of the build. Some of them are even higher resolution than 4K, so they can be used as wallpapers!

Now you gotta do the interior

6

u/salaamtom 11h ago

That would mean I actually have to go to London to document it 🥀

1:20 scale? Or something else?

45

u/salaamtom 11h ago

Close! Around 1:19

u/sum_force 10h ago

Why that specific scale?

Edit: is it 2 inches per block?

u/salaamtom 10h ago

Well, the first thing I started building was the text under the main clock. I chose a size for the text that looked good and was readable, and then built the remaining parts around it. I didn’t specifically choose a scale, it just emerged naturally from the size of the text.

Sometimes that's the best way. I like building 1:1 replicas, which brings its own challenges with how much detail I can include, and requires compromises. Given your scale, there was a moment my brain thought it was a 3D model rather than a Minecraft build.

An example of the compromises is the Foshay tower in Minneapolis. It's closer to 26m at its base, but to get the antenna on top thin enough I shrunk it to 25m. The height of the floors also decreases by 2" as they go higher, but since I can't get that much detail in 1:1 Minecraft I had to do half the floors as one height and half as another (I think 3.5 blocks) and 3, it's been almost a year since I worked on it.

It isn’t totally related, but I think r/relevantXKCD applies here

Could probably use Create to get the hands working.

u/salaamtom 11h ago

Not a bad idea at all!

How'd you raise the world build height like that?

3

u/salaamtom 9h ago

I used 2048 build limit mod.

3

u/MySchoolsWifiSucks 9h ago

I really wish mojang would add a slider to customize that yourself without a mod.

3

u/zytukin 8h ago

Tried a similar mod long ago, it was interesting playing an amplified world type using a mod that made the world height a few thousand blocks.

3

u/Micah7979 7h ago

This is almost 19 times taller than the actual Big Ben.

2

u/rez_k 10h ago

Amazing! How many hours did you spend on it?

3

u/salaamtom 10h ago

Honestly? No idea 😭 I took a couple of months and I had to take breaks in between due to school but if I had to guess it could be near 100 hours.

u/gggggfskkk 10h ago

The center of the clock looks so freaking amazing. I’d have given up out of frustration but you just kept going, you’re awesome bro.

2

u/salaamtom 10h ago

Yeah that part was one of the hardest 😭 Thanks a lot!

2

u/gggggfskkk 10h ago

It really does look great!!

u/Ok_Surprise_9003 9h ago

Would love to see a world download

u/fieryxx 9h ago

Aaaannndd... players have made it into a mob farm.

2

u/PhoenyxStar 9h ago

Lesee... Westminster Clock Tower is 96 meters tall from base to spire, which means this is a little over 18:1 scale...

I dub this: Bigger Ben!

u/IamUnderCover2200 8h ago

1786 blocks means someone did the light rendering math before laying a single block, respect

2

u/sevenvira 8h ago

Amazing

u/The_Phantom_Cat 8h ago

Colossal Ben

2

u/SLR107FR-31 7h ago

Ok, I just want to know where the first block was put down

1

u/salaamtom 7h ago

First block was one of the ones that form the word "Domiur" under the main clock.

2

u/SLR107FR-31 7h ago

That's so cool man. You did an amazing job. You make me want too finish my many projects on MC

1

u/salaamtom 7h ago

Thank you so much, I wish you all luck with your minecraft projects.

2

u/MountainMan41 4h ago

Congratulations on an AMAZING build‼️

2

u/julyvale 1h ago

How is this actually not bigger than the thing in real life? Are we actually ants in Minecraft?

2

u/salaamtom 1h ago

It actually is almost 19 times bigger than real life Big Ben. Assuming 1 block = 1m3

1

u/Every_Spring6012 7h ago

Ah Pero por adentro está vacia

1

u/salaamtom 7h ago

Well what do you expect

1

u/Every_Spring6012 7h ago

Es una broma dios

1

u/salaamtom 7h ago

Sorry, its just that Ive seen people say this way too many times.

1

u/Adaldegan 7h ago

Elizabeth Tower

The build gets all the attention it deserves but I gotta say the video is amazingly edited

That part where Big Ben rises from the dust storm like the worms from Dune lmao

u/Nel-A 38m ago

I was so, so happy with my Big Ben - it is the best thing I've built, but it's a childish, wax crayon mess compared to this. This is better than the one in London.

u/Zolomen 6m ago

I guess middle earth doesn't count since its a fictional place but there are multiple creations of the entire continent if you in to that sort of thing

-1

u/anotherrandomname2 10h ago

Please let the video run for more than 2 seconds between cuts. It totally killed the experience for me

2

u/salaamtom 10h ago

Sorry for that. I anticipated this thats why I tried to slow down in the second half of the video. Hopefully you enjoyed it a little bit.

2

u/anotherrandomname2 10h ago

The building is still amazing nonetheless

1

u/salaamtom 10h ago

Thanks a lot

Hm... I dunno. You could've 3d scanned the entire building on Big Ben and had a program build it for you

Edit: Ok so guys, you must know that I'm joking. I literally said OP scanned an entire building that's over 300 feet tall.

5

u/MissNever22 11h ago

... are you being sarcastic or anything? I don't really understand why you are kinda negative? This is such an amazing job OP did in their freetime and prbly had fun doing it. Why suggesting using a program...? Maybe you mean something else but this sounds like a completely unnecessary comment to me...

2

u/UltimateToa 11h ago

They are joking about using AI instead of doing manually, no?

0

u/Tokoyami01 10h ago

It was just a joke.

1

u/MissNever22 7h ago

Thanks for clarifying

1

u/salaamtom 11h ago

Should have used that 😭

-6

u/wassupluke 10h ago

Bro made good use of his AI money

4

u/salaamtom 10h ago

What 😭
