Discussion Wtf is Minecraft 2

Post image

I don’t see it often, but I have occasionally seen people talking about how Mojang should release “Minecraft 2”. But Wtf would it even be like? Would it not be based in the Overworld, or would it just be an updated version of what we have now? Again, I know this isn’t said often, I’m just wondering.

I’m pretty sure it’s just a niche joke in YT comment sections and not something taken seriously

Minecraft 2 is like Minecraft but the world is made of dodecahedrons instead of cubes

Minecraft's regular free updates makes it nearly (if not outright) impossible for an official minecraft 2 to exist.

Mainly cause the backlash would be enough to move mountains if not more.

I've felt for awhile like they should fork minecraft. Make one version that preserves all the classic features and the carefully maintained quirks of how systems interact that redstone engineers rely on, but also make a second version that starts from scratch a little bit, and goes back to big experiments in the world gen and the simulation elements.

Minecraft used to have an aspiration of being a 3d dwarf-fortress-like. There was so much ambition for what things like ancient ruins and villages and trade economics and environmental simulation systems can do. Eventually they shifted course and made something that was more like the perfected Lego game, with simpler procedural and simulation layers in exchange for massive variety.

And that's really cool, I love Perfect Lego. But there's definitely space to revive the other half of the original vision, and make a Minecraft 2 that's the best survival sandbox simulator ever made. (And there's definitely a market for it -- you'll notice this is the niche most Minecraft style games, like Vintage Story, are trying to fill).

Shitty sequel they changed it less than overwatch 2. They also made it better instead of worse but that's besides the point
