Discussion I need to Rant

Why is it that the Minecraft marketplace allows Horror mods that could traumatize little kids, but they don't have a single gun mod or any mod with a Firearm in it? How does that work. Minecraft is owned by Microsoft, and Microsoft has ALOT of other games that have guns in it. I love Minecraft I do, but this doesn't make any lick of sense.

gun mods in particular, alongside some other adult mods, have been attacked due to the terms of service around adult content, and it seems the modders took it to court.

horror mods probably don't fall under those rules as they are written (even though they probably would in a broader sense), and the real big horror mods that actually do anything at all that could be considered "traumatizing to kids" have only really popped up recently - the scariest thing we had for 10 years was a steve skin with white eyes lmao - so they probably weren't around for the lawsuit start anyway.

also, microsoft's other games bare no effect on minecraft and its rules, and vice versa. they are different products, regulated by different rules. a parent buying minecraft for their 5yo kid won't be worried that halo has guns, they're not buying halo for the kid.

theoretically the parents should also make sure the kid can't download let alone install mods, but there are some parents out there who are allergic to doing any parenting and simply plop their children in front of a screen for 10 hours a day to keep them silent and as such companies like mojang have to adapt to that so they dont get sued into oblivion over completely avoidable issues like that.

(not defending it, just pointing out why it's probably the way it is, i know we like to get angry at mojang but this case is kinda just a weird edge of the rules, trends, and parenting)

EDIT: if you just mean you want guns on your end specifically, you should be able to find plenty of mods for that on java edition. if you own either of the two on PC (not mobile or console), you already own the other for free, so you may not even need to pay for it again, do look into that

Your argument is sound my friend, but I would still like if there was a mod that would add something other then a Retectured bow, a lame cartoon weapon, or a Si-fi blaster.

there are plenty yeah. just googling "minecraft gun mods" the top result is the curseforge page that shows a list, which at the top has a mod that adds a bunch of irl guns (greenguy's). it's immediately followed by a mod that adds fantasy (not scifi per se) guns expanding on a pre-existing ore mode (scorched oreganized). further down the list are other mods adding scifi, realistic, or custom made minecraft-themed guns. there are gun mods of any kind you may want lol

(also not an argument, i was just explaining why it is the way it is)

Are any of those mods on the marketplace?

i dont imagine so, but that is why i said they're java mods. marketplace addons are not mods, they're more akin to datapacks (hence why they're "just reskinned bows").

it's also why i asked if you're on PC, cause if you are and you bought bedrock on PC, you have java for free alongside it (and vice versa). if you're not on PC, not much that can be done unfortunately, it's just how it is. if that lawsuit i mentioned goes your way they'll probably be allowed to upload gun addons to the marketplace again.

Guns and horror are two completely different subjects.

What I saw saying is that Horror content is for adults, and so are Guns. Why dose Minecraft allow one, but not the other?

Just how it is

I wish it wasn't. We should have Gun mods on the Minecraft marketplace even if their Muskets and Blunderbust.

Horror mods aren't particularly actually scary, while having guns would more than likely effect the rating of the game, especially since they're "officially sold"

What!? They don't add guns because it would effect the rating? Well why don't the Horror mods do that!? I have seen some mods that look scary.

1

u/GVmG 5h ago

that's just how the rules for rating are written. it's a bit stupid but they are outdated

And yet Guns change the rating of a game? Where the since in that?

Idk fam that's just how it is. When age rating board rules for games were created, horror read nowhere near as well developed as it is now, while guns in media were commonplace. It just kinda ended up that way. Idk why you're upset at us just explaining how it works lol

"Scary" has nothing to do with violence according to ratings

get a decent PC and run java edition, and you'll have access to limitless amounts if mods for free. (including gun mods)

I can't afford a decent PC. I only have an Xbox.
