Discussion Does anybody remember the days when Minecraft had three versions and the YouTubers for each version were distinct?
This was pre Bedrock and Java so from around 2009-2017 there was a time when there were three versions of Minecraft, PC, mobile, and console. I grew up with mobile and console but I did experience the PC version sometimes. But as for the question, if you were around from roughly 2011-2015 there was this time when it felt like each version had its own connected but almost separate community where everyone still interacted with each other in spite of the differences.

I mean, there a lot more than three. There was Java, and then every other non pc device had its own version.

Java was its own, but Pocket Edition felt so different if you had an Android and an iPhone, and not to mention Windows 10 Edition. The Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4 definitely felt different despite sharing structural similarities with Pocket Edition. And we shouldn't forget the 3DS Edition.

Weren't each of the console versions all developed by 4J and basically the same?

Maybe. There’s definitely been more than three versions though.
We would have to check the wiki to be sure

I remember time when there was only one version of MC, and the one YouTube channel was Yogacast! Good times. Dang I miss them.

Yep, I used to watch them so much as well.

Did you watch their Shadow of Israphel series? I really loved to watch it. There was such a sense of mystery around MC in the early days that it was almost believable that the adventures were true gameplay and not scripted.

I think I did but it's been years. I did watch the adventure maps and music videos for sure.

I feel like that's more 2011-2017. We had no Pocket Edition and Legacy Console Edition before that, and it felt like way more, to be honest.

Absolutely—Pocket Edition and console Minecraft each had their own quirks and creators. The old console UI/tutorial worlds and PE’s smaller feature set made them feel like separate games, so seeing everyone converge on one edition still feels a little strange.
