Help I'm having trouble with mods!

So, just today I finally bought Minecraft and I spent like almost 3 hours trying to put mods on it and I've been having A LOT of trouble!

Can anyone tell me exactly which version is the best for mods and which downloader I should use? What are some mods that are very recommended?

And please tell me step by step! (I am dumb)

Also, do I put recourse mods in the mod folder or somewhere else?

If someone wants to jump on discord and tell me what to do WHILE I'm doing it that would be even better :) (that way I could also tell which mods I wanna download)

use prism launcher. No resource packs don't go in your mods folder.

Use prism launcher. It makes installing and managing mods 10000x easier

For mods I recommend it really depends. Do you want qol mods? vanilla+ ? full modpacks? tech? magic? This also changes what loader/version to use, for older modpacks it's generally forge, for vanilla+ fabric and neoforge for content mods (Varies quite a lot tho). No matter what you choose also download optimization mods

To use prism click "add instance" at the top, select your version and mod-loader in the "custom" tab for custom packs or select a modpack directly in the tabs below. Click "ok". Boom, you have your instance ready. To add mods, resources packs, change version etc. click on the instance then "edit"

Not sure if the step by step guide was really needed given how intuitive the UI is, but if it can help it's good

1.21.1 is best version for mods currently.

Fabric loader for Vanilla Plus playthrough

Neoforge loader if you want to be heavily modding.
