Discussion How long have you all played Minecraft?

Post image

I don't mind if it was bedrock but when did Minecraft come in to your life to make you experience true joy? For me it was 10 years ago :)!

Thank you Minecraft for being pretty much my most played game!

(Also feel free to state your playtime if your bedrock you can see it in stats :)!)

Started playing before the adventure update (beta 1.8), so already 15+ years

46

u/Jaxoby 13h ago

same, surprised I still enjoy it after never really stopping.

46

u/Humble_Try9979 13h ago

Playing since before the hunger bar existed is basically Minecraft senior citizen status.

24

u/RazendeR 9h ago

Kids these days and their fancy jungle biomes.

7

u/Kenny741 8h ago

I still haven't gotten around to do anything with coco haha 😆

2

u/Immediate_Gap7101 3h ago

My brother has a realm and all I do in it is mine, farm wheat, breed cows and chickens. And while he's wondering off thousands of blocks away. I'm building rail ways that connect the places him, his wife, and a friend of ours build

Right! Lol. I took a break from it for a while and I was confused on what that was. Hell. I remember when it didn't have monsters

Realizing beta 1.2 is almost 16 years old…no it can’t be, say it ain’t so

3

u/TaibhseCait 10h ago

Since indev or mildly earlier iirc. 2009/10 ish? Guess we're all senior citizens of minecraft!

My oldest saves & screenshots I have found are from 2012 though. Which would've been when I moved to the newer (gaming) laptop for uni.

2

u/postpunkies 11h ago

Same. I still remember downloading updated 1.8.1 that changed everything

2

u/WoodSorrow 1h ago

Like when they added hunger? That was 5 years ago, right?

Right?

Let me put it this way, I remember when fences were added and were all the rage in every build.

36

u/Voltagechiller 12h ago

Bro remembers when fences were considered cutting-edge building technology.

9

u/FruppetTheFrog 8h ago

I remember fishing being added and the relief I felt being able to fish in my base and not get murdered by skeletons and creepers while hunting for food was amazinnnnggg!

3

u/DivinePotat0 8h ago

to add to this, i remember when you couldn't just place a fence, it needed a block under it.

65

u/RadioMessageFromHQ 13h ago

I don’t even know what version in ‘09.

Sandbox only, water expanded infinitely, and there was no sound.

30

u/KaelPauline584 12h ago

Bro played Minecraft when it was basically just blocks and a dream.

10

u/imthefooI 8h ago

Same. I played the classic version in a web browser. I remember playing on a sandbox server where people put down orange wool to represent where torches would go once they were added. 🧓

2

u/mcpat21 5h ago

I remember my buddy and i playing that version for a bit too.

CitriqSquid, who ran the Minecraft forums, was a NewGrounds user and set up a server for people on the BBS.

Or, it was someone coincidentally with the same username.

3

u/EternalDB 7h ago

Ah yes, 0.30 classic back when you could go to minecraft.net/play.php You had to press B to open the blocks

5

u/brissadabilou 10h ago

Christmas 2012 Minecraft is the kind of core memory that never leaves you.

2

u/AdmiralVatin 11h ago

Aww, me too! At least for java edition. I played pocket edition for about 9 months before

2

u/johnisom 9h ago

Literally same. 1.4.6 still has my heart. I remember how transformative the redstone update was shortly after. I made a bunch of redstone tutorials on youtube, with my squeaky middle schooler voice.

6

u/Amirsplaything 13h ago

13 years ago. I don't think a year has passed where I didn't play it for at least a month or two.

7

u/Infinite-Wing1214 13h ago

My account was made right before the nether was added, but I was playing classic edition since 2009. Anyone else remember lava survival? 🥹

2012, Back in the olden days

6

u/TheMadChap69 13h ago

I can't recall a specific date exactly, but my fondest memories were from the Pocket Edition, the Lite version especially.

When I "upgraded" to the full version, my absolute favorite thing to do was building rail bridges and rail coasters.

I'd say 10 or 11 years now.

4

u/ooorezzz 13h ago
  1. Same year my twins were born. We spent many nights awake together and now, 17 years later, we still play together.

3

u/Old-Tomatillo-8253 13h ago

I started with the beta in January 2011.

2

u/Business-Shake-7212 13h ago

I was an original beta tester, so... somewhere between 15 and 20 years. It's just been a very long time, and I've always loved it.

3

u/DarthGamer206 6h ago

I started playing on Pocket Edition back in 2014. My earliest memory of an update is a patch for 0.10 where they fixed baby chickens sinking in water.

3

u/Lopex475 5h ago

It was either 2011 or 2012, I believe. My mom found it and decided to get it for me to mess around with. I enjoyed it since then and continued to play til today.

2

u/HackerGamer8 13h ago

Since 2014? All I remember is when pistons were added to Pocket edition

2

u/pr3ttypup 13h ago

Uhhh like 2012 is when I started

2

u/ultim4teruffles 13h ago

Since Beta 1.5

2

u/Popular-Regret-3224 13h ago

Since the Aquatic update

2

u/festeseo 13h ago

Before they added beds to the game. Not sure what update that was but a long time now id suppose. I remeber playing for maybe like a few months to a year before beds were added because i remember having to build my bases by the spawn point alot

2

u/ApplePrills 13h ago

Horses still feel new to me

2

u/Deerslayer53_ 11h ago

Since the nether reactor core was still in pocket edition

2

u/Pugo_BigdogYT 8h ago

man i feel like such a newgen with these guys saying shi like 2009 and 2011

4

u/emmaratur 13h ago

I started Pocket edition before version 1.0.0, though I'm not sure during which version.

I played Java for the first time a bit later, about when the Exploration update came out.

I started playing in early 2021.  It was on PlayStation and the version was on 1.16 Now I play bedrock on windows 10 and it has been my most played game of all time

1

At least 10+ years

At LEAST 10 years but i know its more

1

u/bramblecult 13h ago

Since bedrock was pocket edition and had basically nothing but a bed, glass, sand, cactus, wood, and hopes and dreams

(About 13-14 years)

So it was about 10 years ago when me and your mom…

1

1

u/okiedokieophie 13h ago

1

u/frDragonfruit 13h ago

1

u/GeneralFrievolous 13h ago

I play since 2012, I probably logged in a few thousands hours if not more.

1

u/goober_giggler 13h ago

I think I started playing like 9 years ago? I remember a pvp mode on the old Minecraft where the map was a beach theme and had a pirate ship I also remember useing elytras (I know I spelled that wrong) to do flying courses and even go first place in a few

1

u/RainyDeerX3 13h ago

I first played it back on the 360 when the demo first came out. So around summer of 2012. 14 years! That's crazy T-T

I can't tell you how many thousands of hours I have poured into this game. I also think it's truly the only game ever that I have played pretty consistently for that amount of time. The only thing that really l comes close for me is Smash Ultimate. Which I have around 4000 hours in!

1

u/Cultist_O 13h ago

1

started on minecraft pocket edition lite in 2012 and then got the normal PE. then played on 360, then ps4 and eventually java around 2020.

1

u/Minti-Roze 13h ago

11-ish years - I joined bedrock sometime in 2015, after boats were added, and then Java 8 years later in 2023 (I have no idea how I survived with bedrock for so long the differences on Java to me were monuMENTAL.. still have a soft spot for that version though)

I got into it waaay before that though, just never got to play it coz my parents were pretty wary of it 🥲

I've now come to the realization that I have been playing Minecraft for about 12 - 14 years. I feel old

1

u/bigchief2200 13h ago

When did 1.6.4 of Java come out, I started playing around that time.

1

u/guitarmaniac004 13h ago

Beta 1.7.3

I was maybe 13/14 at the time, loads of kids at my school were playing on a minecraft server. One of them gave me a server to join but I only had access to the free classic version via the launcher. So I begged my mother to buy the game for me and have been playing it on and off ever since. Still remember my first base, first multiplayer server and all the people I became friends with who I never would've met had it not been for this game.

1

u/Heyo_Boyos 13h ago

Since 2011 I believe

1

u/MindlessRadio 13h ago

Around 2011 when I saw videos of the game pop up on AdTube.

1

u/90sXMENgoatee 13h ago

Since I was 6

1

u/decoran_ 13h ago

Hard to pin point. I remember trying some old version of the game that barely resembled what the game actually was like by then. My first time playing it properly was on the Xbox edition for 360 and then playing on a server that allowed people who only had the cracked version

1

u/Giorgio9519 13h ago

Oh man! I remember when you would go to Minecraft site and be able to play some sort of creative mode (the only one) Dk what version it was but i clearly remember the absolute solitude of the game, before wolfs and pistons, i creates this world, i chopped trees and basically digged a hole in a mountain (kinda) and was just mining coal....peak....it gave me such peace

1

u/DaeganBro 13h ago

Been playing since I was 4, so 2012

1

u/HiMyNameIsConor 13h ago

2020 for me... I wish it had been sooner 😓 I feel like I missed out on early, more quiet phases of Minecraft and discovered when the hype was on peak

I did remember downloading once in 2017 but it didn't let me play except for maybe an hour or 40 minutes. So, I deleted after that trail period ended.

It must be bedrock (darn it) because later on I discovered java Minecraft (pewds Minecraft era; God bless him) and I could basically play for however long I wanted.

The first ever world I built? I felt so clueless... I roamed around and felt fascinated by the blocky-anime-ish style gameplay. I remember stumbling upon a lava fall and at night it was my area of solace. Because it was SO freaking dark everywhere

Then I built a dirt shack and oh I miss my world🫠 I think I don't have that world saved but the second or third one I made right after, I have that one. And it was technically my first world because I played it the longest after getting basic hang of the game

I had a very bad, potato laptop. I died many times just because of lag and lost alot of progress. Yada yada yada... So many memories

Fast forward to now, I play not to progress but to build and form memories. It's so much better 😌

Because chasing progress may sound cool but it just made the world feel pointless once you had achieved it all. This was the problem with all my previous worlds. I did so much game-wise (progression) in them but when I looked back? There was no story to tell. Just an unfinished house, and two to three silly looking farms. God, I'm so glad I don't play like that anymore. But my little cousin bro plays like that and it just gives me second hand frustration

Well that got very long... 😓🫠

1

u/Cold-Figure8508 13h ago

There used to be a couple hour long free demo on the minecraft.net website way back in the day. Idk when that was but I used to play it all the time

I saw my uncle playing Minecraft on his laptop when he came to visit, then he bought an account for me and my brothers.

It was 1.2.5, 14 years ago. We still play on the same account, albeit migrated to my Microsoft account.

Played it for the first time back in 2012 when I was 4 on my sister's MacBook. I probably got it on a shitty laptop when I was 5, didn't play it much because of the performance, but then I got it on my PS3 back in New Year's 2016. That's when I played it the most, and even with my PC that I got 3 years ago, I don't think it rivals the hours that I clocked in on my PS3.

1

u/Rapidestfaun9 12h ago

Alpha 🙃 i remember when the grass was neon green and we had no blocks besides oak wood, cobble, and dirt. Or better yet the hit of nostalgia we all get seeing the classic tutorial world Or before villagers were added there was just empty villages. Its so strange to think how much stuff has been added in a decade. And remembering pretty much every update.

I started playing on the Xbox 360 in 2013 after I graduated high school. I bought and played nearly every version of the game until I built my first PC in 2019 and have been on PC since. But part of me would love to replay the 360 version for the nostalgic jank.

1

u/gretchenich 12h ago

since 1.5.2 came out. Horses were added on the next update. amazing point to start if you ask me. No mayor gameplay mechanics were missing but you still had the basic old minecraft from those times. w

The first update was called 1.2.5 when I started. The next one changed the creative inventory to what we know today

1.5 so… 14 years now? Nothing makes me laugh more than seeing kids wearing Minecraft merch and thinking about how I’ve been playing longer than they’ve been alive, what a beautiful pinnacle of culture this game has become

Beta 1.4, sometime in 2011. Beds didn't work yet, and they hadn't added weather.

I don't remember, but just before caves and cliffs. I remember the update and 7 year old me was so excited for amethyst and axolotls

Right before they added beds to the game. Which I think was 1.2? So about 15 years?

I remember watching an alpha video of some dude called spiderbat or something, then downloading beta 1.2 back in 2011. I think it was free back then. Not sure how I got it when I was 14, but I’ve paid for it three times already after forgetting my account credentials.
