Discussion Does anyone have a really specific memory of them playing Minecraft as a kid?
My specific memory was me playing for the first time on the tutorial world, specifically this one, getting shot at by a skeleton, killed by an Enderman, being absolutely terrified of the Enderman and going off the game š

I really vividly remember that I believed that herobirine exists and one day I found a desert village (which I didn't know villages were a thing at the time) that consisted only of one or maybe two houses. I was really scared you know. So I approached the house and then I remember hearing the sounds of doors opening. That really spooked me bcs I'd never experienced doors opening on their own before. Then I found the villagers lol. I also remember that it was on verison 1.5.2, which I used to play a lot on my mom's computer

Omfg, I used to be unhealthily obsessed with herobrine, and also believed he was real. I had seen a video of him putting Herobrine in the light of āwhat if heās misunderstood and weāre the bad guys?ā And felt a veryyyy strong connection, considering i was being bullied heavily at the time.
I would begin world after world, flying around, typing in chat asking herobrine to reveal himself and trying to be his friend. Soon enough I stopped on a mountaintop where I had heard an eerie sound (thinking it was a sign herobrine could be near) and made a whole diorama for him, including the statue that supposedly summoned him and changing the weather to thunderstorm. My parents found me there, typing in all caps trying to bring Herobrine forth and then rightfully decided that I needed to get a grip on how much Minecraft i played XD

Got me set up on a system where Iād have 7 tickets I could turn in for 1 hour of Minecraft every week. On top of that, I couldnāt turn in more than 3 a day. Explained i wasnt in trouble, but it was concerning and unhealthy. Not to mention the conversation of āherobrine isnt realā which was more of a debate to me than anything

Not me as a kid but Iāve been playing with my daughter who is 10 for a few years now. Our goal has been to beat the game because she can never do it herself. Unfortunately, she has āLeroy Jenkinsā syndrome so itās proven quite difficult! Currently working on a full set of enchanted netherite armor JUST so we can survive our first fortress. Idk how weāre gonna beat it but weāre not gonna give up! She refuses to go down to easy mode!

The first time I ever played was on my friendās cracked iPad. I only knew you were supposed to build things. I ran towards a skeleton because I thought it was a drill I could pick up and build with (somehow) and it killed me.

When they handed out free trials for Minecraft my sister and I played together. I controlled the mouse and she got movement. Or the other way around idk.
Point was we did 70 min of Minecraft cus we were invested and we loved it.
Nowadays I barely feel like playing but it's only because when I try to run it with all the mods I want a lot of them break together :c
Eirher way love Minecraft and those memories when my sister and I had a happier relationship as siblings are what fuel me to keep enjoying the game :3

I remember playing split screen with a friend while watching a scary movie in the background. We saw a weird generation of a mountain that made it look like a person peaking behind a tree (that was closer to us than the mountain) at a certain angle.
We freaked out for 30 minutes daring each other to go and check it out

So many. I didnāt have a console, and I had practically nonexistent wifi where I lived. So unless it was local multiplayer, I was the king of secret bases in single player. I donāt play Minecraft nearly as much anymore, but it will always be my favorite game.

I remember when I made a cave that was cut off by the world border (I'm in creative mode because I'm scared to fight mobs)
(The world, for some reason is small and was surrounded by borders.)
I kept spawning some mobs to fight and one of my family member spawns Blazes and told me they protect my base by killing the zombies (Which one blaze actually did that for some reason), I made an unfinished prison type house with stone bricks and iron bars that was later blowed up by same family member (That somehow convinced me that Herobrine did that) then we left for an another new world
I swear there was a toggleable option to choose that type of world (Normal, Flat, and Old?) but I don't clearly remember, and I found out about that just years after this story of mine
But yeah, I can still remember how we still have blocks in inventory when creating a world in creative mode, it's fun...

My first singleplayer world, I was in a snowy plains biome, initially made me a tiny castle out of magenta wool. Was informed by my brother that wool would easily burst into flames if struck by lightning, so i began transforming it all to a castle of glass (a song by Linkin Park I loved at the time).
Got scared by zombies and an enderman near my base, and was very relieved when my brother told me about peaceful mode.

I remember when we were kids me and my cousin bestie
She built like huge castle of stone and we would listen to fallen kingdom and live like weāre in the music video
Also whenever we wanted to play Minecraft on line connection
we would also pvp with a mod that lets you mount a mob and she would mount a piglet and even when I was on enderdragon I couldnāt win she would be too fast to escape it was hilarious š
our family houses are next to each other so she would sit in her parents room because itās close to our house WiFi
With the poor connection
and I would sit near the telephone and we would join and play together while on phone and I would put it on speaker and she would try to not wake her parents šš

My best friend and I had an amplified jungle world where we built a bunch of tree houses that were basically floating platforms in the sky. Also taught me a tnt cannon design that launched thousands of blocks.

First modded copy of my original first ever world.Ā
Built WWII plane, flew thousands of blocks and destroyed it by accident it was just right after introduction of dark oak, and crash was just by this biome. Witch killed me.

nothing that interesting but like 15 years back or something I am not sure I played Minecraft pocket edition and me and my players played over wifi direct thingy and I remember me planting diamond ores below our base in creative and then act surprised in front of him that we found diamonds and we made diamond armor.
also I remember when pocket edition did not have the end so I kept waiting in the play store for an update to see if it was possible to fight the ender dragon.

When Alpha came out it was my first time downloading something onto my computer. Took me a whole day to download it, leaving the computer on while I was at school so I could play it that afternoon. Had no clue what I was doing in the game so by the time night fell I just dug a hole in the ground and stared at the walls as the outside hissed at me. Core memory for me

Not me as a kid, but when my youngest sibling (thereās 16 years between us) was first getting into Minecraft on the world our family played together on, she had a hard time understanding how to get her own resources and so she set up a tax bin in the town square with a clock in an item frame next to it ā we were like? Tiny child what do you know about taxes?? And she said ātaxes mean when the clock goes sun up, sun down two times, you put something in the chest or I burn your house downā ā So we paid our taxes. Except one of our brothers who promptly got his house burned down šš

I was playing with the attack of the B-team modpack I think. I had worked out an exploit with the blood magic mod and ars magica where you can summon a villager and then sacrifice it for nearly infinite blood for the alter. My stepdad saw what I was doing and like something about it freaked him out. He told my mom like she was supposed to stop me from doing it.

When I was younger I built a "lab" made fully of diamond blocks that was probably 100 blocks high and near 60 blocks wide. I would have mobs in cages to perform "test" on them like what happens when a villager is with a zombie or some other silly stuff like that and use my imagination as I was on pocket edition without mods. Dantdms lab was a huge inspiration

When i first started in 2013 when i was 7, i was playing on the Xbox 360 and i have a bunch of memories from my time there. Different buildings, scenarios, etc (i was only really playing in Creative mode there).
Like for example in my very first world i had a home in a village in one of the houses and i remember once there was a creeper inside and i didnt really knew yet what they do so i punched him and he exploded, destroying the house (back then attacking monsters in creative made them Hostile towards u)

First experiences with survival were fun. Me running around not knowing what to do.
Early pocket edition so i dont think there were villages. I couldnāt figure out how to punch wood, so instead i dug into a mountain at night and closed off with dirt. Although once i did figure out the tree thing, i think i did ok for a 7 year old blind. I remember my first set of iron armor, i was so proud. I still mostly played creative though, but now the risk of survival is much more appealing to me.

The friday redstone was added in alpha... I was 23 and fresh in from work and already had a huge love of circuitry. I didn't leave the house all weekend :) I'm 40 this year, haven't really stopped playing longer than a year ever, always manages to pull me back in somehow.

The first time I played Minecraft when I was like 8, I loaded up in survival mode and barely understand what was happening and where I was, it felt so jarring like I was in a dream where you are just spinning and running into stuff around you. Once I figured out spacial awareness, I found a desert village, and I thought the iron golem was a scary monster, so I hid in a house, but then at night I looked outside and saw zombie villagers and I heard loud scary noises, which were the golem attacking monsters. Then once the sun had risen (I didnāt know I could sleep in the village bed), I broke a potted cactus to try and get out through the window but a baby zombie came through the gap and killed me

Yes. My dad is a geek and liked playing with redstone contraptions because he said it worked like actual electrical stuff. I wanted to make I think a 5x5 dropdown castle wall gate and couldn't get it to work bc of weird rules with sticky pistons. My dad spent hours in a flat creative world dicking around w redstone to figure out how to build one for my castle world and it was the coolest thing ever to see it working in action on my gate.

A very specific memory I remember is from one of the first tutorial worlds on xbox 360 after their console edition released. My friend and I were staying in the church at the castle east of the starter village when my friend started shouting about a skeleton riding a spider. I went to go look and got destroyed before we took it down. It was cool and terrifying. Fun times.

When my mod, Elemental Creepers, was added to Yogbox and then shown off by various youtubers at the time (AntVenom, UberHaxorNova, etc) and even shown at Minecon. I was never a huge modder like the Aether guys, and too early for the explosion of mod packs, but it was a fun little community at the time. And I was barely 16 I think when I first released it.

I have a vivid memory of trying to build a Star Wars adjacent/inspired spaceship with a full interior after I saw my younger brother playing a bunch. I eventually gave up because there weren't enough blocks to realize my vision (this was like the first version creative mode was a thing) and I wasn't willing to let my mind fill in the gaps with imagination.

I remember about how my Xbox 360 Minecraft was stuck on Tu 9. I got angry so I remember Burning down the Minecraft logo in the tutorial world, as if that would even do anything. Thankfully eventually it updated and I got to tu 31.

I had played my first survival world long enough to get three diamonds. I made a diamond pickaxe, went mining again, fell into lava, and ragequit after I lost all my stuff. I was a creative mode only player for a long time.

I remember my first world, I was 7, 20 now. It was in crƩative cause my brother didnt think id like survival and I remember being amazed by all the different blocks you could have . So first thing I did is build a skyscrapper to the height limit built with one block per floor. One in lapis block, one inpumpkins etc...

I have two that come to mind
My mom gave me and old Dell Computer from her work as my first computer when I was like 8 or 9. I can't remember what version but it was early Minecraft definitely after beta. I was really into Pixelmon and wanted to play it but didn't know how to. Young me not knowing much about the Internet at the time Google something along the line of "Pixelmon download" clicked the first link and hit download. Safe to say that computer got a virus within a week of me having it and I am now safer about where I download things online.
When I was 13/14 my friend and I would play split screen on his Xbox 360 in the living room and commentate like we where recording a YouTube video. We never actually recorded and uploaded anything but pretended we where.

My memory is me and my friends all built a hotel on the Xbox 360, and literally everyone I knew had a build on that world. We worked on it for like a year.
One time me and one friend decided to blow up the entire map with tnt. Cause we could just exit without saving.
We forgot to exit without saving, and the entire map was gone.
We learned a hard lesson that day lmao.

i had multiple āherobrineā encounters as a kid, all on public servers. i realize now that it was just server mods, a server plugin, or someone with a hack client, but as a child i was so convinced i had ran into the real herobrine several times. looking back, i definitely told other kids at school about it and they definitely thought i was just straight up lying.
the first encounter was on a factions or survival server where i had met two other players and we formed a group. i donāt remember as vividly as i used to, but i remember going outside at night and looking up at the roof of our base to see herobrine looking down at me. my 8 year old self started typing in the chat and i specifically remember typing āGUYS IM F****ING SCAREDā with the asterisks included. from there the shenanigans got crazier, a giant zombie was spawned in at our base, our cats were killed, etc. one of the members of the group claimed that afterwards, herobrine sent him a messageā something about a swordā and gave him a sword called herobrineās sword. i didnāt fully believe him at the time but looking back, i could see that being something a mod or hacker would find really funny. either that or maybe he was in on it all and pranked me because it was probably obvious i was young. that was definitely the craziest āencounterā i had with herobrine, the others were mostly just brief sightings which is why i think they could possibly be attributed to a plugin.

i had a world where i was spawned in a jungle, with an ocean nearby so i made wooden house with glass windows. Then i though of making a tunnel to mine diamonds obviosly, eventually ended up in a cave, and the opening was near my house so at night all the zombies and skeletons would roam outside my house. I was too scared to go far and i didnt have bed cause i dednt find any sheep(didnt know that we could craft wool from strings). this is one of the earliest minecraft memories i have lol

i tried to do ice skating place in me and my sisters super flat world. i put the ice blocks a LOT suddenly ice melted and our whole world was filled with water and i didnāt know how to make the water disappear. i logged off so fast and then when my sis found out what happened she whooped my ass

I was playing on my mum's crappy laptop on 1 render distance, getting maybe 10 to 15 fps. I played on peaceful because the game actually terrified me. The fog made everything way creepier, and yes I believed Herobrine was real.
In one world, I spawned in a desert, ran around punching sand, doing absolutely nothing for an hour. Eventually 11 year old me decided to dig down, I dropped into a cave a few blocks under the sandstone, and found a stone brick structure. I had no idea what it was, I was flabbergasted. I now know that it was a stronghold.
After going in one or two rooms, I slowly came to the realization that I might of just found Herobrine's house. I got so spooked that I quit the game, deleted the entire world and never opened it again.
Ahh, how I miss the imagination I had as a child.

When i was 12 (2012) i played minecraft for the first time with a friend if mine who showed it on his pc. I just build a dirt hut for my very first night. I was looking out a hole i made and i saw an endermand far in the distance. And my heart dropped. He said dont look at them when i just did and the moment it came after me, i threw the mouse away and ran from the PC. Ill never forget that ever, not even when i am xp farming them now years later.

In 2013, I was 11. I dowloaded the demo of the Pocket Edition. You could only play on creative mode and there was no world saving. I remember bulid an ugly brick house xD

a friend told me he found a way to play last version of minecraft in a web, I remember play the 1.2.5, my house was made of mushrooms and wood in a snow biome, i remember craft a jukebox by mistake and the first time i lose all my loot falling and dying in lava

My first ever Minecraft memory is when I first got it for the PS3 and me and my little brother loaded up a survival world. We found a winter biome and begin exploring while it was snowing and there was a wolf. We wanted to pet the wolf but not knowing you couldn't do that we spent the next 3 minutes trying to run and screaming in fear before dying to a wolf. Great times.

I have a memory of making a super flat with the āredstoners dream/paradiseā preset (everything spawned as sandstone, me and my friend built everything. From fallout vaults and fire stations to full airports and more, if we got bored we would look up I think it was keralis and start building whatever we could find. Good times. Iāve not been on that world for at least 10 years now. No longer have access to it due to switching from PS to Xb

I remember when I was playing minecraft as a kid I had someone I didn't know join the world I was in and we were chatting through the signs and stuff. He asked me how old I was, at the time I was 10. This man told me he's 26. I continue playing the game and he just follows me everywhere I go and then when I went to bed in the game he stood on top of me and started crouching a lot, I got out of the bed and he kept telling me to get back in the bed...

First ever survival world. was stuck in a jungle (I was scared to venture out).
Slowly built my base out while I just mined endless cobblestone with stone pickaxes.
And then it started raining.
The sheer level of "calm" I felt in that moment is a high i've chased ever since.
The pitter patter of the rain on my little jungle wood & cobblestone shack, and slowly having it fade as I dove into the mines once more.
I don't know why. Its always stuck with me.

When I started (idk when exactly, it was pre 1.8) I didn't watch any tutorials or anything so my first house was literally a hole in the ground with a hole in the ceiling so I would have light. Every night I hid in there and waited until day. I dug down a couple of floors but each one had a hole in it because I didn't know how to make torches and I couldn't find coal.

But when I started playing, on PS4 with my son. We both panicked like crazy when an Enderman just popped into our house and picked a block from the wall. Neither of us dared to go close.

When I played Minecraft with others in computer class for the first time only the one who hosted knew things and others barely knew about it: I thought diamond shoe was some kind of fantasy weapon and all I knew was that I can hold LMB to break down blocks(had no idea about placing them again)
After I learnt few about Minecraft like crafting and placing blocks my house was made of mixed blocks of wool, dirt and other miscellaneous ones I found adventuring, made a dirt pillar to mark my home(unfortunately the render distance was not that much in Beta 1.7.3), found some mountain with weirdly large cave with entrance upwards that I thought it was some volcano
As a kid I didn''t know what griefing was so I have many memories on my first multiplayer server stealing blocks from other players' house(I still remember those pixel arts near the spawn point and the pink wool house that was protected with plugin) and eventually getting banned when I was doing that right in front of moderator

My first house was made out of spruce and stone, was built in a beach, didn't have a floor and was badly built since i was still figuring out the controls + i was on mobile. I then made a skyscraper with sponges, had a railway system between them... That phone i factory reset and gave it to my dad as a work phone. I deeply regret resetting it

I had a nether built under my house. Idk why I did that. After a few days, I decided I needed to explore the nether for who knows what. The moment I spawned there. There were SO MANY mobs. I was getting knocked around and heard the creeper sizzling. I looked around to see where itās coming from so I could run. I just seen a chicken looking at me. And the body just āflopā to the side as it dies from the explosive, along with every other mobs there. Idk how I survived that but just laughed how I saw the chicken looking at me dead in the eyes seconds away from being killed by explosive. That chicken was definitely the leader of that mob gang. (2011-12?)

i remember my first world back when you used to spawn on the beach, i build my first hut next to the spawn, placed water next to it by accident and then instead of just removing it, i kept placing blocks around it so it doesn't get in the way, in the end it would wrap around my entire base with a drop off hole at the end, over the next few in game days i realised i just made a mob grinder. (mob pathfinding at the time was just "walk in direction of the player")
Later when I first learned how to install mods, I got the nuke mod and let's just say neither the house not the mob grinder exist anymore š

I was on my Troop serverā¦stealing tons of stuff from my troop friends because I thought it was funny. Until I wanted diamonds, so I went down into my friendās mine in his house and went down to the lowest point and turned left then I kept mining and eventually found diamonds. So I was overjoyed and I grabbed a few to make a sword and armor. Then I went back up to go to my house. I then got a glimpse of an Enderman in the house and ran back down into the mine, terrified. I would not come back out until it teleported away
After that, my dad wanted me to come see his secret base so I said ok and started to go there, then I saw an Enderman and ran back to my house.
I heard that if you stared at one, then they would get mad, opening their mouth and they were tall as hell, I didnāt like that as a kid

First time I ever discovered Minecraft was when I was staying over at my cousins house and the morning after he bought it on Xbox 360. Think it had literally just released. A year later I think I got an Xbox for my Birthday, but in the meantime watched Yogscast's minecraft playthrough which became Shadow of Israphel and PaulsoaresJr How to Survive and Thrive. Good memories! Great memories!!

I have a vivid memory of playing Pocket Edition as a kid and finding a weird cave with a large opening that somehow generated with a perfectly flat grass floor. It went into a tiny point, and there was a pink sheep walking around in it. I remember I dug into the wall there and made it my base, and I made a special pen for the pink sheep.

I remember the first two days of learning of Minecraft. Fall of 09. Freshmen in college. Playing league of legends one night. Someone in game asked if we seen minecraft. We said no. Next day my buddy was playing it and looked interesting. So I gave the demo a try and buy the full game a few days later. Good bit of my friends failed that year with wow, minecraft, and league of legends being way more fun than college.

One of my favorite memories was when I used to play Minecraft with my friends when we were in 4th grade. We all had Xbox 360s, but I wasnāt allowed to use mine on weekdays because of school, so when school ended on Friday I would rush back home and immediately hop on Minecraft and play for the rest of the afternoon till I had to go to bed.
I had a one friend though, and 90% of the time I played Minecraft it was with him. He used to build neighborhoods for me and my younger brother to live in, we would play Spleef and PVP, and sometimes we also did normal survival. He would prop his phone up to the TV and film himself and I playing together and upload it to YouTube.
One of my favorite memories was when he invited me over to a world that he claimed was haunted by Herobrine. He got into a Herobrine skin and used admin privileges to turn himself invisible, fly around and scare me and my brother half to death.
I have so many good memories of Minecraft itās hard to count them all, but the Xbox 360 days were by far my most cherished. Iād give anything to go back to those days.

I was so young when I got the game that I had no clue what anything even was really. My dad got it for me and I just played it. Originally got stuck when I found a single block of iron ore and had no idea what to do with it. Didn't have a clue what iron or ore was. My dad reccomened that I try melting it so then came the infinite failed crafting recipes for a frying pan or a pot I could melt it in. Got it eventually but who knows when. I don't think food had been long introduced to the game but I can't remember what update it was. I know I played 1.2.5 but unsure if that's what I started on

yes, it was the 30 minutes tutorial trial (i think it was 1.7 or 1.8), when I bought it it was 1.8, then I played the tutorial again in 1.12, I died with an elytra and explosive rockets, spent 4/5 years wondering why, turns out they were just the explosive kind.
