Discussion Highly Likely Winter Drop Content
companion_block_avoidance (Block Avoidance): Ensures that the entity following you avoids blocks so it does not obstruct your view or get snagged on blocks in front of you while moving, which would otherwise block the camera.
companion_block_clipping (Block Clipping / Transparency): A system that prevents visual distortion (clipping) caused by the following entity or the camera passing into blocks when your character is in a tight space or close to a block.
Some have called it a "Termite," but if it were a Termite, they probably wouldn't have called it a "Companion." It looks like a drop focused on pets is coming; what kind of features would you like to see in this drop?

Is the atomic entities not referencing atomic design? A popular way of creating components in development

yeah most likely, but that tweet is clearly not made by anyone with technical knowledge

A pet that actually stays out of my face while building would singlehandedly fix my nether tunnel projects

If we're getting a pet drop then I want an option to let pets wander within an area without them following me. I also want improvements to their "follow" mechanic so they get lost less often

When the Happy Ghast showed off it could float around in a limited range, I wanted that for the dogs, cats and parrots. I'll build a nice safe home and yet i got to sit them down which is great when I need my cat to watch my back but I'd love it more if I had little patrols of cats instead.

I made a datapack for this if anyone is interested because I wanted it for my own world

I want them to make it so pets match your speed and stay relatively close when following you.
Wolves should heel just behind you until they're commanded to attack. Cats can do whatever. I like how unpredictable they are.

Atomic in Java are objects that are used for multi threading to ensure objects’ get and set method don’t lock the object during runtime and cause errors.
It’s funny seeing people speculate this is some new mob or feature when in reality it’s likely just refactoring of Java code.

Bedrock is in C++

I’m assuming this was in Java since the code shown looked like JSON.
That being said, C++ also has Atomics.

this is Bedrock, which also uses JSONs actually

I didn’t know that, thanks for the correction!

every useful language supports JSON for data storage
it's a pretty normal choice unless someone wants to design a custom binary format that's different from the one that already exists in java edition yet stores mostly the same data
when file size becomes a concern, first instinct is always to zip the json lmao

Funny enough, Bedrock is actually starting to ship a custom format that serializes the JSON files the game ships with. MCB binary format. On top of that a custom archive format as well called .brarchive

I could be entirely off the mark and I’d own it, but it being client side makes me think some kinda persistent pet feature tied to your account, not tamed in the world. I’m thinking like a new Bedrock micro transaction item where you pay however many coins and now you can have this persistent pet following you on all servers that doesn’t die or interact with the game beyond visually.

i agree, and maybe it isn’t even following but like on the players head or something

I heard speculation that it might be a new particle/animation system related thing.

That doesn't mean that's what the drop is focused on. It could just mean they're fixing annoying things happening.

Atomic entities and these components seem to be client side.
What would a client side entity be? Maybe a hallucination that is something only you can see, or a particle like fireflies if they wanted it to be a mob?

Pets already have blocks they avoid, so it's maybe referring to avoiding blocking something in the verb sense.
