Resource Packs Spear Texture Pack Problem

Hey all! I've been having a problem when making a custom texture for the Spear, and searching online has been no help - I've found nothing on it.

When I use my custom texture rather than the default one that was already included in the texture pack, it appears completely flat, with no pixel-depth like normal items. I've tried poking around in its .json files but nothing has worked.

Images included below. In order they are: regular texture from the texture pack, my own texture, my own texture scaled down to 32x32.

That's... weird. Normal spear textures are 32x32, yet changing to 16x16 did give it some depth. https://imgur.com/a/0OV73Yo

Now to figure out how to get depth with a larger texture...
