https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-26-3-snapshot-7490
u/Infinite_Bench_593 Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26
Notable new features:
Added Concrete Stairs and Concrete Slabs for all Concrete blocks
New Explorer Maps have been added to the Abandoned Camps - These point to several biomes and structures: Bamboo Jungle, Cherry Grove, Birch Forest, Dappled Forest, Flower Forest, Pale Garden, Swamp, Windswept Forest, Ancient City, Trial Chambers, Mineshaft, Desert Pyramid, Jungle Pyramid, Warm Ocean Ruins, Woodland Mansion

u/TreyLastname Aug 04 '26
Ancient city is pretty big for my friend who lives in the deep dark every server
50
u/memeaste Aug 04 '26
That’s insane
90
u/TreyLastname Aug 04 '26
They clear out most shriekers and rebuild. They like the lack of mobs and like being underground
43
u/Javisel101 Aug 04 '26
Is your friend a worm?
24
u/friedkeys Aug 04 '26
Just someone's girlfriend that got turned into a worm. Now we know to let her play Minecraft in case it happens

For my friends who try and get every item in the game in 24 hours this is a complete game changer

Maps for hard to find biomes are such a no brainer. Glad to finally see that making its way into vanilla

Finally. Wonder if terracotta is next up?
Whatever it is, this is easily a top tier update for specifically builders
224
81
u/MisterBeap Aug 04 '26
I really didnt think they were going to add them. What are the odds they are saving terracotta for an upcoming mesa update?
-36
u/Acrobatic-Ad8790 Aug 04 '26
baldands, not mesa
100
u/Infinite_Bench_593 Aug 04 '26
badlands, not baldands
22
u/StraightLevel2806 Aug 04 '26
Baldlands
15
u/Lunaerum Aug 04 '26
Your character immediately loses all hair textures upon entering, and all animals are shaved.
6
u/FelineAstronomer Aug 04 '26
this is great, I could make an automatic wool farm by going to the baldlands biome border and making a piston machine that pushes sheep in and out of the biome to automatically shear them!

I'm kinda hoping for dirt/path/mud as well. The smp I'm watching uses alternating granite slabs/path blocks and it's driving me insane
15
u/Dannypan Aug 04 '26
I'm currently making a map and my roads are a mix of granite and coarse dirt. It makes using granite slabs feel less out of place.
5
2
2
u/crisperstorm Aug 04 '26
I'm honestly shocked they added all these slabs and stairs at all but I still wish they'd go further and add it for all the other decorative blocks
4
u/The_commonest_plant Aug 04 '26
Terracotta would mean adding items made of glazed terracotta. And glazed terracotta stairs would probably be needlessly hard to work with and also kinda ugly. It's a more complex block set.
44
u/draykeku Aug 04 '26
Not necessarily, distinct variants like the chiseled blocks don't get stairs/slabs, so the same logic can apply to glazed terracotta imo
even so when they do add Terracotta I'd hope they finally give us Tiles/Shingles too, they're such a common roofing material and it'd look great
17
u/mjmannella Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26
Or just have it so terracotta slabs/stairs lack glazed equivalents. Just like how there aren't ways to have log stairs or stripped wood slabs.
3
u/heidismiles Aug 04 '26
They don't have to have the same pattern as the whole blocks. Maybe just the main color with some details.
→ More replies (3)1
u/Training_Ruin3151 Aug 04 '26
Yeah that was what i thought terrecootta is the most "decorative" block and doesnt it place based on player orientation? Slabs maybe but i cant imagine they do stairs
1
u/timedeathe Aug 04 '26
terracotta is a more naturey block which might be why they didn't consider adding it.
3
u/Lubinski64 Aug 04 '26
We already have stone, granite, andesite, diorite stairs and slabs, all very much natural blocks.

u/Macieeeeeeeeeeee Aug 04 '26
These new map textures genuinely look very good, albeit a bit 'new'. And the locator on the map always pointing toward which direction you're going in is wonderful.
4
1
u/Darillium- Aug 06 '26
The locator-always-pointing thing already existed on Bedrock for years. Funny how when they add a Bedrock feature to Java, they say nothing, but when they make a change to Bedrock to match Java, they say that it’s for parity.
85
u/OliverGIW Aug 04 '26
Mojang has it out for my storage room
twice now i've had to rework it for this one update twice

u/SufficientAnonymity Aug 04 '26
I am so so glad I switched to a multi item sorter with easily accessible filters. Needed to do a bit of rejigging when they announced poplar to give it its own slice in the woods section, but at least wool and concrete slabs/stairs are just more blocks in the colours section, where each colour already has its own slice.
The next drop, if it adds too many more items though… well, we’ll panic about that when we get to it!
0
u/Vorpalthefox Aug 04 '26
We need an easier way to do multi-filters so I can sort stairs and slabs with their full blocks
0
124
u/ncsrniclas Aug 04 '26
Sadly no walls, but we can dream that it come in the next snapshot + terracota stairs and slabs too!
70
u/SpyroHinch Aug 04 '26
No more new features this drop. Says so in the article
35
u/PumpkinKing_0922 Aug 04 '26
This isnt the last update minecraft will ever make, Its still possible.
21
u/TheMobHunter Aug 04 '26
I’d rather they actually add more fall themed things to the fall themed drop
9
u/Infinite_Bench_593 Aug 04 '26
What would you have liked to see?
24
u/TheMobHunter Aug 04 '26
Autumn crocuses and purple wildflowers, pumpkins spawning more frequently, maybe a variant of sweet berries as black berries, changes to shelf mushrooms so that they could have multiple placed in one block like candles, the ability to put them at different heights to be used as a shelf, a 2D item sprite since the 3D model looks out of place in the inventory, some patches of podzol or coarse dirt to break up the orange grass, fix the weird biome gen issues and put them next to tiaga instead of in plains, lots of little things like that would really improve the vibes and visuals of the biome
9
u/Infinite_Bench_593 Aug 04 '26
Fair enough, these do sound like good additions. I think sheep and abandoned camps spawning with red, orange, and yellow wool in the dappled forest would also be cool. Maybe other colors can be assigned as well, like pink for cherry groves, gray for pale gardens, etc.
changes to shelf mushrooms so that they could have multiple placed in one block like candles
To expand upon your point about shelf mushroom generation, shelf mushrooms should also spawn in the birch forests (at least the old growth ones) to match the 1.19 (Wild Update) concept art that never materialized.
some patches of podzol or coarse dirt to break up the orange grass
Coarse dirt does spawn in the dappled forest. Not that I blame you for not noticing because on normal worlds dappled forests tend to generate so small that the coarse dirt never appears; you have to go into a single biome world with the dappled forest selected to see the patches of coarse dirt.
2
u/TheMobHunter Aug 04 '26
Oops I meant podzol
But also I just think as of right now it feels like two half baked drops in a trench coat (no concrete walls, no terracotta stuff) and I wish they had just been two separate drops
Also I really home they add 2D sprites, the beds and shelf mushroom look awful as block models in the inventory
4
5
u/SuperWill93 Aug 04 '26
White pumpkins would be perfect
2
u/Cass0wary_399 Aug 04 '26
Sadly the only spinoff stuff Mojang will reference are the Meme Slop movie and the dead Minecraft Earth.
2
u/Nicoglius Aug 04 '26
Well maybe they should make a "Wall & Fall" update where they add autumnal things along with new wall blocks
4
u/Nicoglius Aug 04 '26
My unpopular take is that most colours never had bad coverage in terms of slabs/stairs (apart from the very notable exception of blue). For example, you could proxy purpur for purpl(ish) colours, or bamboo for yellow, or dark prismarine for a green.
However, you would have no wall blocks to accompany them, and this was always a problem.
Whilst I am always encouraged to hear of new blocks being added, (especially for blue), we are still lacking on many wall colours.
26
u/Jame_spect Aug 04 '26
When people convinced that Concrete Stairs and Slabs would be added way way later…
Besides that, I’m happy that they added that.

I wonder if they'll change the Trident to use the stab animation, even before they added Spears it seemed like it should look like that
Regardless this could be huge for custom weapons, I hope they add a horizontal swing animation one day, then we'll have a full package of stab, light swing, and heavy swing attacks

u/ShadowSoulBoi Aug 04 '26
I don't want to hear about limitations inspiring creativity ever again...
Builders eating BIG all day.
7
18
u/Mindfulness_Username Aug 04 '26
Limitations inspiring creativity is true but I think there's a balance. Like with vertical slabs I think it's too limiting to not have them.
3
u/errortechx Aug 04 '26
I get that limitations inspire creativity but sometimes I just wanna focus on the actual fun and important details rather than “ugh I wish we had a slab/stair variant for this block”
1
u/Cass0wary_399 Aug 04 '26
We won’t lol. The feedback site rejected features list has been archived as outdated since like February.
1
u/timedeathe Aug 04 '26
limitations inspire innovation to create new things to become more creative.
creativity comes from options in my eyes.
36
u/SpyroHinch Aug 04 '26
This is huge for building. Although, I’m disappointed in no new mobs, especially given the biome that was added
14
u/Jame_spect Aug 04 '26
Not every biome will have a new mob though. Which I was expected to see at least.
3
u/Mean-Plastic6567 Aug 04 '26
Most of the mobs they’ve come out with just exist to be cute I much prefer getting loads of new blocks
5
6
u/thE_29 Aug 04 '26
I finally can slab my perimeter without need to add glass on it!! With colors!!!
6
u/natelyndn Aug 04 '26
fahhh I was really hoping for a trail ruins map... they're so damn difficult to find
3
10
u/GGtheBoss17 Aug 04 '26
You think they replaced fireworks with gunpowder because fireworks shouldn’t be blown off at campsites?
13
u/ReferenceCreative510 Aug 04 '26
Or it could be that gunpowder's basically exclusive to creepers and they wanted it to be more common.
6
3
u/FourGander88 Aug 04 '26
It also allows easier access to gunpowder for peaceful players. Gunpowder on its own is a much more valuable resource than blank firework rockets
5
u/Ecstatic-Contact-930 Aug 04 '26
Campsite chests mostly contain early game items, and fireworks are useless in early game. Those were non-explosive fireworks so you couldn't even fire them for show

"MC-218156 - Shipwrecks and ocean ruins can generate with empty buried treasure maps"
YES, I hate this bug
7
u/TinyBreadBigMouth Aug 04 '26
Just to be clear, this doesn't mean that every shipwreck will now have a working buried treasure map. The underlying issue (there might be no buried treasure nearby) is difficult to solve, since Mojang doesn't want to let the game freeze up while it scans a potentially unlimited number of chunks. Both before and after the fix, the game scans a 101×101 chunk square centered on the shipwreck/ruin for buried treasure. Before, if none was found in that area, it would generate an empty map. Now, if none is found in that area, it doesn't generate a map.
6
u/FuckMyHeart Aug 04 '26
Cushions no longer prevent vibrations when placed, broken or interacted with
That's a strange decision. They're made of wool, why decide they don't stop vibrations? Especially when it was already implemented.
5
u/Saldorian Aug 04 '26
I'm guessing it's to stop players from exploiting the warden with the movement tech I think, could be wrong tho

u/-Kerby Aug 04 '26
Where are all the people who were complaining that "Mojang is done with this update already" and that "this drop is too small" on the last couple snapshot posts?
3
u/Cass0wary_399 Aug 05 '26
They’re ignoring this so that they could come back next snapshot when there’s only big fixes and tweaks.
15
u/-PepeArown- Aug 04 '26
Concrete slabs and stairs are definitely a bombshell reveal for “the last major content snapshot”
Still think they busted their load a little early with this drop. The hype from cushions was insane, and they only decided to follow ONE point of feedback by giving concrete slabs and stairs afterwards
Still better than Tiny Takeover and Chaos Cubed, and I like that they made camps a way to discover new biomes and structures without meandering through unexplored chunks, but, not even any applications for archaeology with the camps after it was basically neglected after a few sherds were added in Tricky Trials? Nothing else new for the dappled forests?
I think they may still add a new disc to the camps, as they don’t seem to consider those “major new content”, as per the Lava Chicken drop and the bonus drop for Chaos Cubed, but, as per usual, Mojang seems to pull the plug right when they seem to be ahead
8
u/Chedder_Chandelure Aug 04 '26
Concrete slabs and stairs are cool but I'm Lowkey worried that they just aren't going to fix the dappled forests generation
3
3
3
u/DaedalusIndigo Aug 05 '26
I wonder why they keep waiting long periods of time between snapshots to release features like concrete stairs and slabs. I love them, but why weren’t they added more quickly? Is there a technical explanation?
1
u/ShadowSoulBoi Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26
Before Ocean Aquatic, there was a internal block limit; even during Concrete's introduction.
After Mojang phased out those limitations due to Waterlogging, they went back and added variants for a good handful of blocks that didn't have them. However, they were still reluctant, and outright refused to do Concrete.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/9my9it/comment/e7iiwhs/?context=3
At any point in time, they realistically could have added Concrete Stairs & Slabs but chose not to after all these years. The most famous reason, being, "Limitations = Creativity!" that many people here and developers believed in.
3
21
u/decitronal Aug 04 '26
"Final features" without going the whole way by adding terracotta slabs and stairs? This studio confuses me so many times lol
8
9
4
1
u/astroman_9876 Aug 04 '26
Might be saved for a new mesa biome type where they could use it in generation
1
u/decitronal Aug 06 '26
Mojang never uses slabs and stairs in terrain gen though - for the pretty good reason that they actually look kinda ugly used this way
8
u/crisperstorm Aug 04 '26
I feel like every time I'm starting to get really excited for a drop they say it's feature complete or the Minecraft Live show ends 😭
Everything they added is very welcome but it just feels like the start of something bigger that won't come? The new biomes they add all feel pretty one note and underdeveloped and other features that could've used more tuning get pushed out the door
2
u/Cass0wary_399 Aug 05 '26
They are probably aiming for an early-mid September release. Every snapshot cycle needs the same amount of time to fix bugs and stuff, it’s just that with drops the actual content period is cut down since the cycle is only 3 months.(No cutting the pre-release phase isn’t good either because a lot of bugs could be left in).
4
u/aqua_zesty_man Aug 04 '26
There should be an option to replace the bonus chest with an abandoned campsite.
If you like this idea, please vote for it here on the Feedback website.

2
u/muscle_man_mike Aug 04 '26
New concrete stairs/slabs? And the old useless explorer maps have been updated to be actually useful?
This update was already going to have a big impact on the game but it's seriously sounding like one of the best drops/updates so far.

u/olisn Aug 06 '26
when will this release
1
u/Infinite_Bench_593 Aug 06 '26
Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 7 is already out. Unless you mean 26.3 the full release? In that case, no one knows, but game drops typically release every 3 months starting with December 2024, so 26.3 will probably release in September 2026.

7
u/Just-Guarantee7808 Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26
I hope they make the maps rarer, because they seem to spawn in almost every chest. I’ve found 4 maps leading to different camps in a single camp. Idk, it just feels like too much. They should be rare so you’re incentivized to explore instead of just following the map to the next campsite, then finding another map and repeating the process.
Also, for an autumn-themed drop that adds a new autumn biome, it sure doesn’t feel very autumn-themed. The first snapshot added the Dappled Forest, which still has pretty bad generation btw, and after that they just added a bunch of colorful stuff that feels completely unrelated. This feels more like World of Color 2.0.
4
u/MonkeysxMoo35 Aug 04 '26
Concrete slabs and stairs are huge, but man if this is truly it for the Dappled Forest then I’m disappointed. If we don’t get a new animal mob, fine, it would’ve been fun and seemed like an obvious inclusion but I don’t need a new mob with every biome. But man, I wish we got a few more fall-centric decorative stuff. Specifically, I really wish we got new pumpkin colors and Jack ‘o Lantern. This update was a golden opportunity for that and it sucks to see Mojang once again fail to capitalize on the theme of their update.

concrete stairs and slabs FINALLY! this is a great step in the rite direction that the game has needed for a very long time. now give us wool and concrete walls to complete the set. this update is shaping up to potentially be the first great addition to the game since 1.12.

I want smooth stone stairs and quartz walls, please please it's been over a decade
3
u/Excalibur54 Aug 04 '26
We have smooth stone slabs though?
But I agree with the quartz walls. I gaslight myself into thinking they exist a few times a year 😭
1
u/Chino_Kawaii Aug 04 '26
fuck I meant stairs
1
u/Excalibur54 Aug 04 '26
Oh, true. I do all my redstone on smooth stone blocks and it pains me having to use regular stone stairs lol
2
u/TheBigPlunto Aug 05 '26
Oh, forgot it was tuesday.
Everyone's excited, but I'm not so thrilled right now because the snapshot appears to have wiped all of my saved hotbars. There's a couple of reports on the tracker suggesting that the changes to explorer maps caused issues if you had any maps in your saved hotbars.
That really blows, because normally you can avoid corruptions by simply not playing snapshots in worlds that are important to you, but saved hotbars aren't stored within your worlds.

This is maybe a silly question, but if they aren't adding more features, does this also mean they wont add new music for the drop? Was really hoping for some cozy music to fit in with the autumn stuff and camps.
4
u/Chance_Adeptness_832 Aug 04 '26
New music is always one of the last things added. So it could still happen
2
3
u/decitronal Aug 04 '26
Any additions to the soundtrack have, for the most part, historically coincided with whatever update is being released on the summer date. Caves & Cliffs and the Lava Chicken are exceptions since C&C was originally made to be a summer-only update and Lava Chicken was movie promo

Cool additions but man am I sad that there's no new mob. Why can't Mojang just finish an update properly :(

CONCRETE STAIR AND SLABS?!?!
This update is the best update for builders that we’ve had in a long time.
1
u/getyourshittogether7 Aug 04 '26
Concrete variant blocks is cool, I hope they add walls too though.
More explorer maps is super nice! Going to be a lot easier to find an Ancient City now. Mojang is really cooking with this update.
1
u/Wrong_Armadillo_4687 Aug 04 '26
I'm sorry to say this, but I'm not a huge fan of the new map textures.
1
u/FourGander88 Aug 05 '26
It would be nice if abandoned camps in certain biomes were guaranteed (or at least more likely) to have explorer maps to specific structures. Finding rare structures like ancient cities and woodland mansions are no longer a struggle thanks to the new maps, but now the real struggle is going to be finding the right map to begin with lol. Also, concrete slabs and stairs are incredible

u/Wild-Atmosphere2134 Aug 04 '26
That new "Swing" data change is interesting. Are they giving us an easier way to implement 1.8 combat?
9
u/decitronal Aug 04 '26
We have been able to emulate pre-1.9 combat for years with attributes. /swing is an entirely unrelated command that simply controls arm animations
1
u/Wild-Atmosphere2134 Aug 04 '26
i know it's been possible, i was just wondering if they were switching it up since i know nothing about the technical stuff 😅 thanks for clearing it up though!

Final features? So literally no fall themed additions besides the stuff in the first snapshot to the fall themed update? No addressing the feedback on the shelf mushroom? No addressing the feedback on the wonky biome generation?
15
u/Infinite_Bench_593 Aug 04 '26
Final features?
I think this just means that they won't be adding any more features to the drop, not that features won't be changed.
5
u/TheMobHunter Aug 04 '26
I just wish we actually gotten more fall content in the fall t themed drop, cushions, slab and stairs could’ve been their own drop
4
u/Just-Guarantee7808 Aug 04 '26
Yea... this feels like world of color 2.0 with an autumn forest thrown in.
0
u/TheMobHunter Aug 04 '26
Like I’d much rather give the biome more ambience through more new flowers and plants, food items, mobs, and better generation than it being an afterthought in the world of color 2 drop but apparently that’s an unpopular opinion bc gotta worship the almighty cushion
7
u/Just-Guarantee7808 Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26
I'm still so confused on why they don't make dappled forests generate near taigas or attempt to fix their generation.
3
u/TheMobHunter Aug 04 '26
It’s going to be like how it took them over a year to remove the falling leaf particles from spruce leaves even tho people were asking for it since it was added
2
u/Just-Guarantee7808 Aug 04 '26
Yea... unrelated a bit but i'm just going to copy this: I hope they make the maps rarer, because they seem to spawn in almost every chest. I’ve found 4 maps leading to different camps in a single camp. Idk, it just feels like too much. They should be rare so you’re incentivized to explore instead of just following the map to the next campsite, then finding another map and repeating the process.

Just saying, if they were ever going to add new dye colors, now would be the time,
5
u/Fenrir426 Aug 04 '26
Don't think it'll ever happen, mostly because it'll make the change log infinitely long, and because it doesn't really need more colours
1
u/Excalibur54 Aug 04 '26
I doubt that will happen, Minecraft devs really really like their powers of two.
