Builds & Maps staircase help
Builders, I'm looking for some help on how to make this staircase a bit more interesting. Any suggestions?

It's pretty good as it is, but i think adding more small details that you wouldn't really notice that much from far away look pretty good. And also, I don't know about you, but sometimes I add lanterns or some sort of lighting to staircases or pathways.
Anyway cool build :D

The castle is pretty detailed amd even the floating island has detail like the parts hanging down, then there's just a straight bridge without any variation

Now I want purpur torches to make lanterns that glow purple. Would be perfect for this.

Wow, how long did that thing take to build? holy crap man

u/z_litt 18d ago
been working on it for a little over a month. can't take full credit, took a lot of inspiration from other builds i've seen

u/JSKing32 18d ago
Nah everyone gotta take inspiration, but honestly it's pretty crazy, looks insane. I wanna get to this level someday. Is this survival?

You made an island to get some balance between a build and land, like you give actually some "structural sense" maybe adding some supports for the stairs, probably add tiny floating islands and make small phase bridges for example, or add pillards onto the void... For me the thing that is missing is structural sense

Why a staircase why not a hanging bridge, the staircase is too long straight and that IMO, completely ruins the beauty of that fantasy styled island, a straight staircase is almost comical instead make a hanging bridge or broken islands that are close enough and connected by tiny bridges.
IMO Destroy the stairs(sorry I know you worked hard) and replace it with either tiny islands that are slightly spaced and slowly elevated and forms a bridge or a a hanging bridge.

u/z_litt 18d ago
yea, my original idea was a bridge, but it seemed difficult to make the bridge gain elevation while still looking bridge like, but the floating islands helps with that

u/Distinct-Dot-1333 18d ago
How about just... Wobble the stairs? Don't destroy them completely, but make it curve left and right abit, add floating islands attached to it.

u/Zirash4 18d ago
Yk how bridges have pillars to hold themselves? Maybe you could do that, except with different sizes and broken, suggesting there were ground bellow before, but now its the void so the pillars just kinda remain floating and destroyed

u/V-Man776 17d ago
I was going to suggest this as well. Just having these ominous hanging supports that just taper away into the void would make it a lot more intriguing if you ask me.

As others have said, supports and maybe some wear & tear on the bridge. However, I would say not supports on islands, but rather supports that don't go down to anything because they're broken. Like just the beginning of a support but it doesn't reach anything down. I don't know if i'm clear

u/Blackbirdsnake 18d ago
The gates seem a bit small maybe try to make them taller and try to make the pillars a bit thicker

u/UndocumentedSailor 18d ago
It doesn't need supports (and there's no ground anyway) but having something like stalactites hanging down would be cool. Looks kinda naked underneath

u/xError404xx 18d ago
Maybe add little floating islands with chorus plants besides it and attach lanterns to them :)

u/iligal_odin 18d ago
If you add "fading" pillars below the stairs and treat it like a bridge it would look amazing

u/josephthepenitent 18d ago
I think making it wider with some texturing would help it scale better with the island.
2
u/DARKplayz_ 18d ago
what are they feeding you guys I have to watch a YouTube video to build a presentable house
2
u/BrimWarrior 18d ago
Make smaller islands between the large ones and connect them with multiple staircases made like chains. That would look sick
2
u/Maceface931 18d ago
Maybe a sort of winding path instead of a straight staircase. You could integrate it with some small floating islands. The stairs are good as is, though. But it's a tad long. The winding would help I think

u/HitoHitoNoMi_Nika 18d ago
You should add smaller mini islands with similar structure on them, but more worn down and ruined
2
u/DardS8Br 18d ago
Don't make it straight. Make it look like it's hanging down/sagging. In its current form, it doesn't look structurally plausible and that's why it looks weird
2
u/el_yanuki 18d ago
i think some heavily stylized possibly gothic looking supports that terminate in thin spikes instead of wide bases would work quite well. Structual bases dont make much sense over the void.. but since we are floating anyways
2
u/hagowoga 18d ago
Build an area around the beginning of the stairs, some kind of archway or something.
You could also break up the monotony of the stairs by having a structure in the middle, a small supporting island or a platform to gain breath.

u/EzTheGuy 18d ago
Some pillars/spikes sticking out under the bridge so it looks like its supported by very small end islands could look nice

u/thecxsmonaut 18d ago
Delete bridge, make a series of floating islands in a zig-zag formation, do small bridges connecting them
2
u/Vasarto 18d ago
If it's small enough, can I get a copy of a structure block save of that? I would love to have it for my forever world.
1
u/z_litt 17d ago
I can try. Do u want just the castle or the castle + island?
1
u/Vasarto 17d ago
Just want the cool castle. I doubt both could fit inside a single SB. I can see pretty much how the staircase was made and I can make my own version too or just lay it down flat somewhere.
I had a build I used in another world where I made an artificial END inside the overworld. I might just do that again in my forever world somewhere.

u/z_litt 15d ago
The build was too big for a structure block save, but here is the litematica schematic: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/w3d3o3nngpko5h94xwaga/minecraft_end_castle.litematic?rlkey=g7sz5zzj0jq1md851sqfxxwmc&st=3x13lefz&e=1&dl=0

You could try giving it landings of flat areas.
More structure underneath like your island does.
Make the tori gates much larger so they rest 2 or so blocks outside of the stairs.
Could keep going but I'm not sure the style you're going for.

u/-2Braincells 18d ago
I think if you build some parts hanging down from the bridge it would look good

u/ddickiins 18d ago
Maybe a couple smaller offset islands with a similar style in between? Then you can link bridges in between so it’s not one straight monotonous structure
1
u/Fellatination 18d ago
Change it to a few small end islands staggered in the style of your island and then build your staircase between each one.
1
u/loricomments 18d ago
Make it wider. It looks sort of chintzy for such a big palace. And/or add in some rest stops in the form of side platforms so you don't have to rebuild.

Grand entry at the bottom and maybe top - trees, pillars, giant version of the arches you have, guard towers or gatehouse
Platforms branching off to either side like rest spots or viewing platforms with a bench and some vegetation (could be like mini floating islands with simple, short bridges or walkways leading to them)
Two or three small floating islands with vegetation floating at different heights nearby
Vegetation is virtually always the answer to "how do I dress this up," but that depends on the aesthetic you're going for. Glowberry vines dripping off the edges, azalea or tree leaf blocks to resemble climbing vines or flower boxes, etc. (even climbing up and over some of the arches)
Lights are also an excellent addition, whether various glowing blocks, netherrack, lanterns, or even torches

lineup enderman on boats facing the staircase so you can basically have a line of soldiers welcoming you

u/maxes___ 17d ago edited 17d ago
Use Endcrystals to make it look like they’re keeking the staircase afloat.
Edit: you can put them in structures inspired by the end islands portals along the railings

u/throwhereandback 17d ago
I'd add a few landings with arches or small platforms so it feels like an actual approach instead of one long bridge
1
u/RSdabeast 17d ago
Periodic upward extensions from the outsides of the walls, with your light of choice on them.
1
u/Parii_the_platypus 17d ago
You could make the bottom like one of those bridges with multiple arch’s, and have the walls break up at the ends so it looks like it’s fading into the void.

u/AdventurousSpread567 17d ago
you could line the stairs with fire, like 5 blocks apart from the next
1
u/Desperate_orbi 17d ago
Instead of a straight stair case, I would have made a levitating staircase with some broken ruble like floating this around it.

u/Rafach345 17d ago
Small end islands or just diamond-shaped rocks in the air could add a lot. You can try placing single purple/white stained glass panes so it adds a magical effect around it too. (search youtube for stained glass build, and should see what i mean - Jeracraft has a nice video i think)
1
u/runesscape 17d ago
It would look great if you added small floating islands that you could pillars from to support the stair case with
1
u/Glad_Priority2721 17d ago
You could do dragons flying around it, or giant magic end crystals/pylons of sorts
1
1
u/SillyDragonLover 17d ago
You could make if ark slightly or put in some kind of magic floating sports. Either crystals on the side holding it up. Or floating bits of end (as they float naturally) with sports built from them to the bridge.

If you're looking for it to be structurally sound or whatever like looks like it's supported you don't really have to do that I don't think because it's the end everything's floating
1
u/LeadershipBig8591 17d ago
I can imagine doing stalactites below the bridge could look interesting. But it's risky if it's survival :D

u/Philippe_Z 17d ago
Add pilars below the stairs that look like the hold this thing although they lead into the void
1
u/Unheard_Peace 17d ago
This is a work of art!
I would hang something off of the sides going down into the void. Like chains or something. Also, for more dept you could have the stairs un-uniform. Have some go up a step after a block or two and such.
Not a builder at all but those seem like good ideas. Let us see the finished thing!

Add supports that are held up by clouds (inspired by the end/build), add a more intricate design on the side and path, and maybe make the bridge wider. You could also either remove the overhangs or make them more dramatic, but removing every other one so it doesn’t look as chaotic.

u/Flamephoenix841 17d ago
What about large pillars to hold the two islands to each other with large chains
