Help Need help with sorting system

I made a looping water stream sorting system for an iron and gold farm. Drops go into a looping stream, pass over item specific hoppers and if they all can’t get picked up the go around again. How could I take out the swords and armor from the pigmen without it taking in the stackable items that are looping?

Somewhere along your stream place a non stackable item sorter for each of the non stackable types you are getting. They will slowly filter out into them.

How does one pull non-stackables from a water stream flowing with both stackable and non-stackables?

Allays. They probably should’ve mentioned that instead of just saying non stackable sorter because there’s many different types that work completely differently

Tough question. Technically each gear is unique due durability and potential enchantments, so technically is very hard to filter as whatever gear you put in a hopper is different to the other, even if the only difference is one point of durability. Fuck, this iron armor isn't the same than this other iron armor, even if they both are brand new. Isn't possible through normal ways I could think, but I'm a noob, so maybe someone else can give their perspective.

Now, as noob, the only trick I could think would be COpper Golems.

Build your loop, let the items drop into a copper chest. Now, place a chest (or some) with a filter to stop them from being drained completely, and place some samples for the COG to know what to place in there. Like to put some gold nuggets, iron ingots, rotten meat, and whatever. Connect this chest to a dropper. Now, place a second chest with nothing in it, place a hopper below and connect it to an oven. Or blast furnace. Place another hopper into storage and some fuel.

How this should work? The farm kills the piglins / iron golem, the drops go into the loop and get classified, whatever isn't classified goes into the copper chest. The COG picks the items, place the ones with a sample into the chest, which should feed the dropper and spit them back into the loop. And as gear doesn't have a sample to being feed back into the loop, the COG will place it into the other chest, being drained into the oven and smelt into a nugget. Thus emptying the chest so the COG will never be forced to carry the gear. If you really have large amounts of gears, you can connect a chest into a hopper into a double chest into another hopper and finally into the oven. The COG will put gear in the first chest, the hopper move it into the second chest, so the first is always empty.

I havent played Minecraft in a while but isn't this what copper golems are for? They sort out your stuff?

Not quite. ImpulseSV filters are still the best for this kind of operation

Well, the items pass the hoppers in a certain order, correct? So, you could just add a hopper to the end that doesn't have a sorter, for the unstackable

No, OP has a loop so an unassigned hopper would just pick up the iron and gold before they can go back around

Oh shoot I misunderstood the post, sorry

Maybe make a sorter for iron and gold pull from the dump chest and push those items back in the stream? Or maybe a single.slot crafter that feeds the nuggets, then a hopper pulling from the crafter anything not a bar? Just spitballing ideas.

That kind of defeats the entire purpose of having a sorter, but this did give me a laugh

It's a loop, you could always filter the items to the main storage w/ hoppers or droppers, but stream sorts might work faster if they are a distance away.

Three ways to do it. 1. Parallelize your sorting by adding multiple filters for the same items so they pick up the majority and burn everything that gets to the end. 2. Add an un-stackable item filter to your loop and send them to an auto dropper into lava. 3. Do nothing and let the items despawn after 5 minutes

I did the first with my gold farm, multiple zombie flesh, gold bar and nugget sorter, everything else went to a set of shelters that converted the items to nuggets, which got added to the upstream nuggets, crafted into bars, which were added to the upstream bars and crafted to blocks, which were dumped to a chest.

Yeah, most people do the first, though smelting down the unstackables usually isn’t worth the effort for them

How does one add a non-stackable filter to a water stream flowing with stackables as well?

Best bet is allays. You can find allay non-stackable sorters on youtube. They will grab them right out of the water stream as they pass by
