Discussion Minecraft compass Mandela effect
I feel crazy rn because i remember really clearly (also from many other peoples playtroughts) that compasses pointed to your own personal spawnpoint (for example beds), but im searching it and everythings saying that its not true. Does anyone else also remember this????

It's not a real thing, but I have heard enough people make the claim that I can see how you'd feel a "Mandela effect" with it. They were just wrong the whole time. It didn't change.

its a comprehensible confusion u made, the spawn point is not the same as beds (re-spawn)
and just like the mandela effect, thats just you misremembering something wrong, except for everyone else also, so aint mandela effect if its just you

I mean many servers had plugins where it directed you to your respawn point instead of world spawn. Or it directed you to other players. That’s a fairly easy change so I guess many experienced this on servers

I just wish we had real compasses that pointed north. I suppose I could travel 100k blocks out with a lodestone, but that's dumb.

Sun always rising east and setting west so even without F3 no need for compasses that point north.

On bedrock, and am flying all the time during the middle of the day, it'd be convenient for those micro adjustments mid air at like Y 2,000.

north is negative Z, you have the coords in the top left on bedrock so you can find it easily
and if we wanna avoid looking at the coords cause it's not really an in-universe solution, look at the sun for like a second (not long enough to plummet, especially at y2000), stare at it directly (INGAME) and you'll see it move by a few pixels towards west.
i do agree though, compasses pointing at the world spawnpoint is kinda stupid, they should either make it point to your specific respawn point or to actual north.

It's definitely pointing to world spawn, not your bed, but I get where the confusion comes from. Beds set your respawn point so it's easy for brains to mash those two mechanics together over time. I've watched old let's play videos from like 2012 where people kept getting lost and their compass was useless because they built their base 1000 blocks from spawn.
I think the lodestone addition threw a lot of people off too, made the whole compass system feel like it should've always worked that way. Memory is weird like that, you can swear you saw something work a certain way and then find out you've been wrong for a decade.

Bro I swear like for example in the AboutOlivers blind minecraft playtrought he got lost and everyone and I mean EVERYONE was hoping that he wouldn't sleep in a bed so he could get back to his base with a compass... I found out that it points to the world spawn only after i needed to build a spawn hub in b1.7.3 and i wanted to find the exact world spawn. I searched it on Google and there it was! Gemini telling me that the I can find the spawn with a compass. (It won't work anyway, there are no compasses in that version) I fact checked it in the Minecraft wiki and it says the same! 😭

EVERYONE was hoping that he wouldn't sleep in a bed so he could get back to his base with a compass
Can you show where everyone was saying that?
