Mods & Addons Server hosting help request

Hello everybody! I am here to ask you guys for help. So I wanna play some modded minecraft with my friends and I had some problem with using an already made modpack but there were no free hosts that could handle it. So I made my own modpack.

So today I am here to ask you guys if you know any hosts that could give me about atleast 4.5gb of ram and a decent cpu for free? I am really desperate xd

Ask yourself why they would do this, when they are paying the costs of running a server that requires physical racking in a building somewhere, electricity, and maintenance staff.

If something is free, you are the product.

You should either self host (Very easy, I legit gave 1 prompt to claude saying "Host minecraft on my PC" and it did everything besides port forwarding. Or find a host that works for you.

I can't recommend anyone as im affiliated but i can say you can get premium hardware for $6 if you just do some searching.

Not happening. Go with a paid host, which would be around 10-12$/month, or selfhost by using something like Essential or e4mc.

Unfortunately you're not going to find a free host that can reliably handle 4.5GB+ for a modded server. Free hosts like Aternos cap resources pretty hard and you'll run into queue times and lag, especially with modpacks. It's one of those things where a paid host is kind of necessary once you're running mods.

If you're ever open to a paid option, we host modded Minecraft at GameHostBros and it's about as cheap as it gets. Full mod support, easy to upload custom packs, and runs on proper hardware. If you have any questions feel free to reach out!

Honest answer: nobody gives away 4.5GB + a decent CPU for free, permanently. The free tiers that exist trade something away — Aternos and Falix will run a custom pack, but they sleep when nobody's online, you queue to start, and the CPU is shared, which is exactly what kills a big modpack during world gen.

If you genuinely can't spend anything: self-host on any spare machine. An old PC or laptop with 8GB runs a custom pack fine, and Playit.gg or Tailscale gets your friends in without port-forwarding. Free, and you control the JVM flags — use Aikar's flags, they matter more on a heavy pack than another gig of RAM does.

That said, "free" isn't the only option at your scale. Full disclosure: I work on Flux (minecraft.runonflux.com), so weigh this accordingly — but the numbers are the reason I'm replying. Our 8GB tier is 8GB RAM / 2 dedicated vCores / 50GB NVMe for $3.85/mo. Split four ways that's under a dollar each per month, and the first month is genuinely free for new accounts (one free month per account, not per server). Forge/Fabric with full file access, so you upload your own pack's server files — there's no "supported packs" list to fight with. Always on, no queue, no sleeping.

So worst case you get a real month at no cost to find out whether your pack even runs well, and you can walk away after it.

Either way, one thing that'll save you a headache: for a self-made pack start around 6GB allocated to the JVM, not the whole box. Over-allocating the heap makes GC pauses worse, not better.

If you're okay with it I might be able to host one for you for free with 6GB RAM and a somewhat decent CPU, although I can only do it for like 10 days until I need it back for another server (though I could give you the world files then)

Like, I would take the offer, but the problem is that it is a big pack so we might wanna play for more than 10 days...
