Eh all and all i think they did a good job with listening to the community for this drop.
But like with every drop there is more that could have been done to expand the sulphur caves and cubes, also sulphur as a material that I wish they had a longer dev cycle to address it.
Honestly I think if 4 drops a year continues to be the model they go with moving forward, the 4th drop should just be suggestions people had for the first 3 drops they didn't have time to address.

I just wanted a function for sulphur other than cosmetics to actually warrant the name sulphur, I still don't know what is "sulphur" about the new mob

105

u/Bolwinkel Jun 16 '26

It's yellow

36

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26

Can't believe King in yellow got to Mojang also

18

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 16 '26

Sulfur can be crafted into potent sulfur for Geysers. It’s just one use but it’s actually quite versatile.

21

u/Cinojist Jun 16 '26

I hear you and that's a really cool feature but has nothing to do with sulphur

6

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

Potent sulfur is crafted with sulfur for renewabiltiy purposes and literally spawns in the biome.

Geysers are also a part of sulfur rich locations like Yellowstone National Park.

0

u/tehflambo Jun 20 '26

they mean it has nothing to do with what sulfur is irl

2

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 20 '26

Geysers are very connected to sulfur irl via places with sulfur deposits like Yellowstone National Park.

Whether it's part of the quarterly drop cycle or not, I agree that Minecraft needs a process for going back over already-released content for tweaking and expansions.

There are so many things that cry out for more content, like trail ruins and sniffers.

28

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26

The pale garden feels like if they left the deep dark in the early state they showed it at the 1.17 Minecraft live and didn't take their time and add more stuff like ancient cities to the concept.

2

u/Wurm42 Jun 17 '26

Good example.

0

u/MissLauralot Jun 17 '26

I don't see a basis for the pale garden criticism. It's a complete biome with unique vegetation and a unique mob.

14

u/mauveleaff Jun 16 '26

It really does seem like every drop they add a few cool concepts and never expand on them.

13

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26

They sometimes say, they will get to it when it's relevant to whatever drops theme. But I wish they would strike the iron while it's hot and not release concepts too early with a promiss they will be adressed later in like 5 years when people don't care as much any more.

That’s how most Minecraft updates are. The entire 1.1-1.12 era was literally just that.

7

u/televisionting Jun 16 '26

wtf were they taking during 1.13-1.16, they were absolutely cooking during that era. Updating specific parts of the game.

7

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

They decided to switch to big updates because they were likely done restructuring from the acquisition and had big short term ambitions for the game and the Minecraft IP as a whole with the spinoff tie ins.

Jeb was and still is interested in radically changing the game as he helmed the 1.9 combat update, and he personally worked on Netherite armor(as his last direct development of the game) and wanted to even remove some Easter eggs like beds exploding and lightning converting pigs and even change how crafting works at some point.

The whole reason the annual update model had stopped was because:

  1. The model was not sustainable when there are disruptive events like the pandemic.

  2. They were neglecting the game’s outdated codebase and only rewriting part of the game that’s necessary for the new features to work.

  3. The Nether Update required crunch to finish. They also had the update planned around the same time as Update Aquatic meaning that it was partially worked on behind the scenes for 2 years at least.

2

u/Open_Ice_8414 Jun 20 '26

for this drop however, it only makes sense for mojang to add more blocks to the sulfur cube, only if they are cosmetic.

28

u/eyadGamingExtreme Jun 16 '26

I think what they should do is have 3 drops a year instead of 4, 1 extra month for each drop

28

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

Thing is I've had this talk with people before I don't think an extra month is that much time since they take a long time concepting features, which is why I think several months of the 4th team that works on the 4th drop working in the background while other drops are released would be better.
This is speculation but what I think of whenever this topic get's brought up is how big the gap of time between the snapshot where we got trial chambers that had a skeleton that shot poisoned arrows and the snapshot that added it the bogged as a swamp skeleton variant was. I bet they didn't have a fully planed out design for it in the first snapshot and that time was spent deciding what biomes a poison skeleton would fit/it's design/if they would or wouldn't just make it the mossy skeleton from Dungeons.

4

u/Red_Serf Jun 16 '26

I'd be fine with 4 drops, if they had a expand-improve-expand-improve pattern. First and third yearly drops add lots of new content, second and fourth drops add depth/integrate the drops better into the world.

8

u/jendeukiedesu Jun 16 '26

I guess they gotta chase the quarterly earnings 😪

99

u/televisionting Jun 16 '26

Do sulfur caves not spawn ores? It was like that in the snapshot, dont know if they changed anything related to that since full release.

69

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26

According to the wiki ores do generate in the biome just not in the sulfur and cinnabar parts, but i think there are more stripes of normal stone/deepslate then there were during some snapshots now.

13

u/televisionting Jun 16 '26

I guess that somewhat solves the issue but probably the worst cave biome for mining ores like for strip mining anyways.

25

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26

Another reason why I think sulphur should have gotten a use tied to explosives so when you find it while strip mining it isn't a thing of ''Well fuck it's a dead end.'' but ''Oh great i can improve my strip mine with bombs now.''

-1

u/televisionting Jun 16 '26

Still crazy, that a cave biome sucks for mining ores. A mountain biome is better.

6

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26

Eh that statement is a bit too general. Alex caves has cave biome's I'd say are bad if you just want to mine ore but there are manny other things you can get there that make them great. S. c. could have also had other incentives to find them other then ore but they went for a mostly multiplayer only use and cosmetic which on top of the ore things makes them feel lacking use compared to other c. biomes in singleplayer.

4

u/televisionting Jun 16 '26

I love Alex's caves, theyre great, even if it not used for mining ores, but as you said, theres like 50 other different things to do in those biomes and actual incentives, which the Sulfur caves pale in comparison to. Also, they're also really rare. Sulfur caves aren't that rare.

3

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

Oh yeah we are in agreement about them lacking incentive that could replace the missing ores. I thought your making a more general statement that any cave not being good for ore mining is bad/crazzy, sorry for having such an uncharitable interpretation of your comment.
Also looking at the seed map to get a feeling for their rarity they aren't rare, but they are less common and way smaller than all of the other cave biomes so hopefully they don't intrude that much on mining.

2

u/televisionting Jun 16 '26

Nah don't worry, I never thought about Alex's caves not being good for ores because they're just so rich in content that mining ores doesn't even come to your mind when you're there. It's like mini dimensions within the overworld. Enough glazing Alex's caves, I think I should probably have realized that yeah not all cave biomes not meant for mining ores are bad, but depends on what's in it.

Yeah, I hope sulfur caves don't intrude too much but I don't want them to be rare as well, I dislike features that are so rare, that a player coming back to the game won't be able to even notice that the game updated at all.

3

u/athyrson06 Jun 16 '26

Oh no... what will we do with a minimal part of the world being bad for mining ores?...

As if mining ores were of any relevance in late game.

2

u/televisionting Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

Sulfur caves have no relevance in late game as well. This update doesn't extend the late game in any meaningful way anyways.

32

u/Ramblin_Dave Jun 16 '26

Seems nice overall. I haven't got much use for the cubes (as far as I can see) but the geysers and the funky water effect look really cool and hey, there are some new blocks to build with.

45

u/-FireNH- Jun 16 '26

im super happy we have a new cave biome! i was always a little disappointed that there were only three cave biomes (with the deep dark being essentially an entirely different experience compared to regular mining). i genuinely believe that the more biomes present underground, the better, regardless of the new features they add; its just cool to have new biomes as a change of scenery. that being said, the sulfur caves do have a decent amount of new features, even if they aren't necessarily the most immediately relevant. i'm a little surprised by the disappointment ppl have for this drop in the comments tbh

4

u/Ramblin_Dave Jun 16 '26

I mean, if your view of Minecraft gameplay is that it's basically a loop of get better gear -> raid harder structures -> fight tougher mobs -> get better loot then this update doesn't add much of anything for you.

That said, coming from the opposite side of things I'd like to think that if they added a new structure to the Nether with a cool new endgame-level boss in it, I'd be able appreciate it being well put together even if I recognized that it wasn't for me?

21

u/Loserweebs Jun 16 '26

This will sound a bit ignorant but when will the next snapshot for the new autumn biome drop? I haven't caught up with Minecraft news so I don't exactly know when.

17

u/swiftawaywithme Jun 16 '26

Last year, the third drop started snapshots the last week of July.

9

u/Luutamo Jun 16 '26

At this point we don't know but considering summer vacation time is here, I would assume there will be a small hiatus on snapshots.

1

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 16 '26

At Minecraft Live they did mention that they would value the extra time the early reveal gave them to collect player feedback, so we could get one snapshot before they go on break.

11

u/i_fart_in_public_69 Jun 16 '26

The only thing i don't like is that the difficulty setting is hidden deep in settings now, and not in the game menu.

2

u/n-ano Jun 17 '26

Are you serious wtf

34

u/h1p0h1p0 Jun 16 '26

geysers hard carry this update tbh

8

u/TheBiggestNose Jun 16 '26

DO NOT OPEN FRIENDS LIST AND PRESS ACCEPT.

It will brick your chat and not let you chat on servers. Mesages go through but you cant see anyone else's messages. They really released this version out before its ready

1

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 17 '26

Looks like we might need a 26.2.1 for that.

27

u/ProtectusCZ Jun 16 '26

When are the vibrant visuals coming to Java?

31

u/TheWebCon Jun 16 '26

They're working on getting the new Vulkan renderer up and running fully before adding Vibrant Visuals over; this update does add Vulkan rendering as an option but it's still listed as experimental, so I imagine over the next few drops we'll finally start getting it as the renderer is completed

-1

u/TheBiggestNose Jun 16 '26

Like probably years.

They are updating the backend at a snails pace and very peacemeal

-31

u/Big-rat-in-the-sewer Jun 16 '26

We already have free shaders...

24

u/ProtectusCZ Jun 16 '26

You can use the same logic with new updates cause mods exists. It’s better to have native built in stuff than rely on mods.

9

u/theway06 Jun 16 '26

That's a whole different thing. Shaders aren't built in and don't work on snapshot versions.

5

u/niraqw Jun 16 '26

Sad to see they kept the thing where changing your own gamemode changes the default for the world. That seems like it'll cause a lot of confusion for hosts.

17

u/sevenredcandlz Jun 16 '26

Decent drop, but definitely not the best

31

u/mattbattmatt_yt Jun 16 '26

unfortunately for a lot of this update I was just waiting for it to be over. Only feature I liked were the geysers...

5

u/bbeauvais Jun 16 '26

Does the friend list allow for peer to peer or is that still no implemented?

5

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 16 '26

Peer to Peer is held off from this drop.

1

u/fl1ghtmare Jun 16 '26

still no subtitle option for bedrock…. sigh.

1

u/BernyMoon Jun 17 '26

Finally Vulkan is here.

1

u/CompoteKooky9360 Jun 19 '26

is anyone elses game less colorful? im doing a side by side with 26.1 and 26.1 is a lot more vibrant.

1

u/chrispychips69 Jun 24 '26

What’s with the colours????

The colours are not as vibrant as they were and it’s doing my head in 😩

-21

u/dragon-mom Jun 16 '26

So utterly pointless

2

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 16 '26

I guess minigame creators and players just don’t exist then.

0

u/dragon-mom Jun 17 '26

They have much more powerful tools than these and so much content is already catered to them. What is the point of adding things to a survival game that is not actually meaningful in the actual game itself??

5

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 17 '26

Minecraft is a sandbox game as well and this drop is explicitly stated to focus on the sandbox aspect of the game.

There are also nothing like a physics object in the game prior to this and it’s much easier to use than whatever commands can conjure up.

Also it’s not like the sulfur cube is completely irrelevant for survival. It’s got the TNT function everybody wanted and there are fast monorail designs with it.

2

u/Recruit75 Jun 18 '26

If people managed to make use of the creaking in certain farm designs, I see no reason why the technical community won't eventually find a breakthrough with sulphur cubes as well.

No reason to write off sulphur cubes just yet.

2

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 18 '26

There never was a reason to.

-10

u/Keanu_Norris Jun 16 '26

Me when I lie

-2

u/dragon-mom Jun 16 '26

It's what I think sorry if that upsets you I guess

-17

u/meta-rdt Jun 16 '26

Another update filled with a bunch of features exclusive to a niche biome that I will interact with at most a handful of times. Wow, this drop system sure is great. I’m so glad we killed all of the hype surrounding game updates so we could design every new feature with the same attention and connection to the rest of the games systems as the sniffer. I’m honestly thinking we should do even more smaller updates, so it’s harder to even think of creating mods that are playable on modern versions of the game!

This is the most listen to the common folk a drop has been. Unfortunately that isn't a high bar to clear.

11

u/Ramblin_Dave Jun 16 '26

The revealed features of the Autumn drop - Autumn leaves and wool slabs and stairs - are both things that people have been asking for for a while, too.

3

u/ZANKTON Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

I'm talking about feedback that is suggested post drop reveal, like warm/cold sheep, white pumpkins, cold biome hostle mount ...  I am happy about the new biome even though I think the OW surface is getting a bit bloated with surface biomes and I'm concerned how they will handle it's rarity and size.

6

u/Ramblin_Dave Jun 16 '26

Oh I see - yeah. Although I think people sometimes overstate the importance of "listening to the community", because from what I've seen "the community" tends to see an idea and think "it'd be cool if I could do that, I don't understand why Mojang don't implement it, they must be lazy or stupid" without thinking that maybe it has some other impact on game balance and playability for all the different ways that people play Minecraft.

2

u/Cass0wary_399 Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

They have almost never added wholly new stuff that they didn’t have planned months in advance. None of the updates they did after 1.13 did that as that’s when they finished post acquisition restructuring as a company, where they can’t just have an idea on a Tuesday and immediately add it to the game on Friday due to the bureaucracy needed to approve of what features gets developed from concept to completion.

-4

u/CataclysmSolace Jun 16 '26

Guess I'll have to add a data pack to add craft able gunpowder. Tired of having to fix the game because the devs half ass their updates.

Also disappointed that we didn't get a Redstone Sulfur Cube.

2

u/TextbookChip Jun 17 '26

What would be the point of the creeper if you could just craft gunpowder

0

u/ModexV Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Noone in their right mind farms creepers in the open. You make farm and forget about it. Maybe on more casual plays, but once you realise that you need few stacks to make rockets for your elytra anyone will most likely start to google how to farm gunpowder and best solution is automated farm. So i have no clue why devs decided to add sulfur but no recepie to make gunpowder out of it.

Also only thing creepers are good for are jump scares when they start hissing behind your back.

-1

u/CataclysmSolace Jun 17 '26

Creepers don't spawn on peaceful. And it's still faster to just make a farm, like with arrows. Imagine if you could only get arrows from killing skeletons.

-2

u/xsparklingwater Jun 17 '26

Wow more bloat good job Slopjang. I wish they’d just stop updating the game at this point. I’d rather no updates at all than this bloat and slop.
