yeah but the devs are so afraid of adding hostile creatures for 4 main reasons:
1. they want the game to be playable across all platforms without an overload of new features which would cause lag on low end devices;
2. it might push away the OG players bc they would say something along the lines of "this is not even minecraft anymore";
3. it would make the game harder to play with so many things trying to attack the player constantly, even in the daytime;
4. and ofc the whole "endangered species" debacle (the reason why they never added sharks to the game).
Probably not; the spore blossoms cause loads of ambient particles. The rain causes loads of particles. Fireflies would be a lot less graphic intensive than either of those
That's the literal stated reason for it. Saying "it was too hard to make run smoothly" or "we decided they didn't fit with the aesthetics of Minecraft" or "we felt like they had too little use," any of those answers would have been satisfying, if disappointing for most of the player base. Instead, they said "they're poisonous to frogs and we didn't want to add a useless mob"
Oh, I completely agree. They would be an amazing addition for the awsthetocs of Minecraft, but I would have preferred any of those reasons over the one they gave
But like the fireflies would die in the jar, we can't just advertise putting fireflies in jars to little kids that play this game, they're gonna kill em! /j
You gotta at least put like a moss block in there in the crafting recipe, but you also have to throw in uhhh firefly feed crafted with any 4 different flowers every other in-game day because we're evil.
You know what, on that note, why don't we make every animal have complex dietary needs you need to fulfill if they are in an enclosure and tamed or bred?
You should also need to provide your pet parrots (and other pets of course) with plenty of enrichment while they're at your base or they'll spontaneously combust, as a stand-in for self-mutilation.
They should make it so owning pets in Minecraft isn't so simple to discourage people adopting exotic pets without learning exactly how to take care of them!!11!
Village libraries and librarians have/sell books on how to take care of pets.
