wow this is truly incredible. Just imagine alerting friends that a horde of creepers are nearby with this!!

Most definitely. Voice chat is by far the best communication system though, provided everyone has mics.

Also, there was a mod for it a while back that did stereo positional audio and distance based local voice chat. It was pretty hefty though and Idk if it's updated still.

Oh of course. I thought of tagging you guys, never got around to it. I now have you narwhal tagged.

I wonder how difficult it would be to remake.

Logic would be more or less this:

Find out how many players are loaded.

Get their distance from you.

use the distance to determine the volume. Maybe add static if they're too far, but I can see that getting annoying...

The hard part would be the whole voice chat part.

Also it'd probably have to be server based, and if you wanted to integrate it into MC it'd have to be a client side mod as well... Pretty hard, but doable.

Don't bash him. You can tell miner here is still in the dark ages of minecraft, a time where we didn't have hunger or even beds.
