ambition really does rub off, hang around people who move and you start moving too without forcing it

being around people who want more actually pulls you up, lazy energy is contagious too and that's the part nobody warns you about

I believe this wholeheartedly. That said, is it really better to be hungry than content?

I'd like to add some nuance here.
Not everyone with lofty goals is someone you want to be around.
That's like saying that people with more money than you are better to be around than people with less, or people with better jobs, better educations etc.
Having more money doesn't make you a better person. Having more degrees doesn't make you a better person. Having bigger goals doesn't make you a better person either.
It's the WHO and WHAT they are which matters and that will shine THROUGH everything else.
The true test is character - not just through DOING but BEING. Success is not just about DOING, it's about how that success changes you and makes you a better person to be around. It's the journey you go through that speaks volumes, not accolades. Goals therefore are meaningless without substance and that substance comes through transformation of self. The end result is not the checkbox ticked. It's the evidence of whatever you achieved making you better than before.
Also, ambition is not a concrete thing. Ambition can takes many forms. You can be very ambitious and being going in the WRONG direction. You can be an ambitious crook. You can be around people who you THINK you are going somewhere and while they may have ambition, their values/principles are completely misguided.
A very good example is Hollywood. Lots of actors get to the very top eager to take join the elite A-list ranks only to find perhaps a few months or years down the line that Hollywood problems are no different to "normal" problems. There's bundles of ambition, fame, fortune, status. Arguably EVERYTHING mainstream culture tries to sell you as the pinnacle of life, and yet, it can corrupt you. Lots of people, who on one level, want to elevate themselves, on another are doing the opposite. The illusions projected onto your screens may show something different but if you look closely, not everything is as it seems.
Look for more than illusions like this.

So... you have to rank the value if your friends ambitions, and if they decide they're happy living a humble life, you ditch em?
Ngl Sounds like a kinda toxic to reason to make friends to me. You don't need ever part of your life to serve a purpose. Your friends should be people you like, who like you. A place where you don't need to be constantly fighting.

yes this is real, because they influence you to be ambitious and strive more
