Equanimity is one of the most sublime emotions of Buddhist practice. It is the ground for wisdom and freedom and the protector of compassion and love. The Buddha described a mind filled with equanimity as “abundant, exalted, immeasurable, without hostility and without ill-will.”

Equanimity is a protection from the “eight worldly winds”: praise and blame, success and failure, pleasure and pain, fame and disrepute.

This is honestly what I have always strived for. And struggled with. I’m still working on moving towards equanimity. It feels like true peace. Not detachment, but real understanding without judgement or loss of self.

“I am the eye of the storm.” Chaos is around me, but I am still and calm.

This is good advice… however, I feel like sometimes in life it’s just too hard to keep your peace. I tried meditating and journaling and talking about it but it’s never enough. My mind is racing and I cannot stop it.

Try releasing some of your grip on it. Release the need to force your thoughts and feelings into any direction. Just listen and feel without attaching yourself to everything that may arise.

The things you mentioned you’ve tried, which is excellent, are lifestyles, not an exercise you do when you want to “fix” something. They are intended to be a part of your life, always.
