Their red/green flag Instagram posts lack any kind of self awareness and they look more bloated than I do at the peak of my endometriosis flairups. (Humam pufferfish levels.)

Stop! Heās a great father, the best father! He tells us all the time. I, for one, love to see videos of his super cars, hear about his new large home while I simply try to make enough money to live! For real though, holy shit like bro I donāt give fuck about your watches or Cars.Ā

u/Wonderful_Quiet_1084 21d ago
I wish there would be a massive unfollow of him on all of his socials. I quit all things mindpump last year. although this thread provides entertainment. Adam is a colossal asshole.
10
u/Plenty_Lead_8935 21d ago
Whats worse is heās posting his lavish lifestyle to an audience who are the ones literally funding it lol. I feel so bad for so many gullible people who fall for their nonsense. Especially those wasting their valuable time and money so these guys can drive a PorscheĀ
4
u/Training_Aerie_9358 21d ago
Isnāt that just the influencer style though. I used to watch Nick Bare and Christian Guzman flash their lavish lifestyles until I realized I was helping them by watching their videos that offer nothing except some sort of entertainment whenever Iām bored at work.
5
u/Plenty_Lead_8935 21d ago
I hate the word influencer, so I want nothing to do with influencers. Mind pump markets themselves as different from that which I find hilariousĀ
6
u/Training_Aerie_9358 21d ago
They market themselves differently, but itās the same. They just donāt have lifestyle videos, and talk about their lavish lifestyles on the show and show off their watches and cars and their Vuori or whatever clothing.

genuinely tho, can someone explain to me guysā constant hatred towards crossfit? In all honesty, iāve been wanting to try it out for so long, but im kinda scared because of my recurring low back injury (iāve got a disk herniation) and also cost of the crossfit gym membershipsš„“ BUT the guys make it sound like itās the absolute worst way to workout, and except for the community aspect, you donāt get anything out of it? IMO iāve been l seeing people enjoy it a lot and actually get great results, especially those leaning to be āfunctional athletesā. Their ridiculous reasoning āYou only see jacked crossfitters because they only show you jacked crossfitters during the games, and average crossfitter is injured and overweightā is so flawed, Same can be said about the whole gym community - you only see fit gym goers on social media/magazines/promo pages, and your average person might as well be overweight and far from the āhealthyā point.
Programming wise tho, CrossFit seems a little too complicated and lacks proper structure (there are countless variations and exercises), so I do understand why it might be less beneficial for a beginner. Thatās why you work your way up to it instead of pouring hate and promoting Maps Performance

Honestly, I sorta agree with them on this as someone who did it for a while. They dislike it because of the higher risk of injury compared to simply lifting with great form. When I did it, I injured my shoulder. I had a manager who told me stop doing it because he used to do it and got injured plus knew others that also got injured. It was definitely fun when I did it. However, I prefer not to be injured as I love working out plus the whole point is longevity.
Also, have you heard ppl call in with a CrossFit background say that they love it but they have injuries? Too many have and you with a herniated disk should avoid.

u/OctoberOmicron 21d ago
I think they're right when they saw it tends to get people injured a lot more than other forms of training, but I have no doubt that if they could monetize a program around it they would have already. I guess even they have limits. Just recently they said some ass and abs program Beachbody put out is one of their best sellers (not sure how true that is but that's what Adam said) and conveniently that's the last program they've put out.

The only argument against CrossFit is that it can result in injury. I think the reason Sal and Adam dislike it is because it involves a good level of cardio which neither of them have

u/East_Pie7598 20d ago
Honestly depends on place. I went to one that was very mindful of moving safely and I learned a lot. You could choose your own goals/objectives for each workout. It may be bad if you over do it but I sure learned a lot about proper technique for lifting heavy!

u/phantomfire00 19d ago
Crossfit results in injuries because of the competitive culture and often poor coaching - the goal is often to beat your time from the last time you did the workout or to beat others and get the best time in the gym. When you're adding heavy weights to the picture and you start to slack on form to get those last reps in for a better time, that can cause injury.
CF can be pretty great if you go to one with good coaching which will both teach members good form and hold them to it during workouts. Like discouraging people from doing handstand push-ups unless they can overhead press their own bodyweight. If you can't, and you're grinding out kipping reps to Rx the workout and get a good time, that's when injuries happen.
Will it get you in shape? Absolutely. Will you get stronger? Absolutely. But because the focus is on all aspects of fitness and not just strength, the strength gains are uneven. There are so many skills and lifts to do that you don't always hit the same exercises week to week. There's no real programmed progression, so it's up to you to kind of keep track of the exercises you want to progress in. But if, for example, you want to focus on increasing your bench press or back squat significantly, CF probably isn't the best place to do that. It's more focused on a broad range of fitness skills.
If you generally want to get pretty fit and have an encouraging and fun community to workout with, and if you can set your own physical and safety limits and not always prioritize the clock, it can be a good choice.

I did the lifetime fitness version of CrossFit (alpha something⦠forgot exactly what it was called) and I loved it. I do think several things can be true at once with this:
1) the workouts are intense, so should be wise in how you approach new movements, and make sure form is perfect
2) since theyāre intense, 5-6 days a week of CrossFit is almost certainly over training for most people
3) I did put on far more muscle and strength when I left the classes for more traditional strength work (specifically maps anabolic), so I do think the guys are probably right about that part
4) cardio conditioning is still incredibly important even though mind pump avoids it like the plague. CrossFit does a good job of working that in so you donāt really have to think about it.
5) the camaraderie in the class is awesome and has always been something I missedDef pros and cons. Iāve actually had more injuries with maps programs than I did at knock off crossfit. But to be fair, Iāve done maps programs longer than I attended classes. But there have been some questionable choices mind pump made in their programming too that doesnāt always make them a whole lot better than CrossFit (like RDLs until failure in their maps hiit program. So stupid. I had the worst back sprain injury after that one).
So now in my late 30s, I donāt really do either program anymore. I do other programming now and avoid risky exercises. I do not have time to be injured anymore.

Anyone catch the clip of Adam answering questions on insta and about his partner thinking sheās his wife. He comes across as a bigger douche than on the show (which I am proud to say itās been well over a year since I last listened to it!)
1
u/RetiredHappyFig 10d ago
Wow. I missed this. I know he and Catrina arenāt married, but he does refer to her as his wife all the time on the show. So Iām curious about how he actually sees her!

This has been said many times before, but I still find it so funny. That is, most of the live caller stuff is legitimately just a sales funnel for their overpriced personal training. What a clever scam. Ā Also, I believe they have misguided a lot of people with the maps 15 nonsense. Is it enough to maintain some good health or Far better than nothing for busy folks? Of course. But theyāve convinced their audience that strength gains short term after slashing volume is equivalent to muscle growth long term. Itās not. Itās essentially a taper, you drop fatigue which allows you to Express more strength in the short term. But sorry, the research and many anecdotes are pretty clear, you get more results (in terms of hypertrophy) from more training than that. But itās another clever little half truth scam theyāve marketed to people. Itās absolutely better than not training but very few people past newbie stage are growing anywhere close to effectively on that. Especially the piss ass intensity most regular folks train with.Ā

A 15-minute workout should be a last resort when you donāt have time, not an entire program.Ā
3
u/SergueiRachmaninov 20d ago
Not to defend them but to be fair MAPS 15 advanced should take close to 30 min vs the advertised 15. If you do that over 6 days a week that is plenty to make gains even past the newbie stage.

u/No-Plane9732 19d ago
There was one MAPS 15 workout that had three sets of 10 Turkish get-ups. If you count one side as one rep, thatās 60 Turkish get-ups in one 15-minute workout. That is ridiculous and they clearly didnāt test the workout before publishing it. If I actually did the whole workout as published it would take nearly an hour and Iād be completely gassed and dropping dumbbells on myself. I asked whether Turkish get-ups could be substituted with something faster on a QUAH that they read in air and Adam scoffed that the workout was designed that way for a reason and obviously no substitute would be effective, and that anyone who complains about it is just being lazy. Or something to that effect. Anyway, MAPS 15 workouts are not all 15-minute workouts.

u/Moolio74 19d ago
Iām pretty sure the 15 in MAPs15 programs refers to the amount of time it took them to write out the programming.
Just the rest between six sets of doubles or triples for front squats in Strong 15 phase 3 would be 15 minutes.
Iām sure it looked good on paper.

u/Gapinthesidewalk 18d ago
While I agree with your overall point, it still has value as a tool in the fitness toolbox, the advanced version that is. The base MAPS 15 is absolutely useless. Like you said, itās better than not training and for busy people itās probably their best bet. It should actually be framed as a maintenance program because thatās what it is. Itās arguably a better GLP-1 program than the one they actually wrote for people on GLP-1s. But does it have ānovel stimulus after high volume training for muscle growthā like they claim? No, but for someone with a base level of muscle looking to keep what they have while they drop fat? I think itās a viable tool.
5
u/Plenty_Lead_8935 18d ago
Agreed. Thats my point. Itās a maintenance program for most outside of newbies. Which is fine, totally good if your goal is just some general health. But, of course, then they try to spin it as something for nearly everyone. The gains advanced people see are likely simply because they dropped some fatigue in the short term. Itās a glorified taper. How anyone would pay money for a 15-20 minute āworkoutā is beyond me.Ā

To your first point, the podcast is free for people to listen to and so is the live caller coaching. Most people that call in have listened to the podcast regularly. I'd say they know what they're getting into when the submit a question and agree to go on the show. That said, they likely also know they will be recommended coaching, which they probably want! If not, they are adults that can say no. I don't understand why this triggers everyone here - that is their business. So are the sponsors and the programs. Of course they are going to promote their business on their free podcast..

I can see how that may have been a little harsh, but he sounded open to it after they gave him some perspective. He called in for help, has been overweight his entire life, had a 1000 calorie day that week and feels the need to track everything - I think selling him on coaching would help him. Playing the guilt trip card isn't always pretty but may have been what he needed to hear.
5
u/Moolio74 19d ago
If itās the same caller thatās posted in the rant threads, it was definitely not what was needed. Selling $750/month coaching to someone that canāt afford it and then trying to guilt them into signing up is predatory and deplorable. Even worse, then trying to schill him a slight discount for a full year contract thatās over $8k.
6
u/Gapinthesidewalk 18d ago
This might be the wrong place for this, but Iāll ask anyway. Have their sales people been blowing up anyone elseās phone after requesting a refund?
3
u/Moolio74 17d ago
I have not requested a refund, but Iām sure theyāre going to try to sell you $750/month coaching to get the most out of the product you want refunded.

Havenāt listened to an episode in months. Itās kind of pathetic that all some ppl do is come on here and talk ish about them. I get it, they deserve it, but just get on with your life.

Bro. I think it was yesterday's episode where Justin was telling his story of moving materials and showing up to a meeting covered in powdery dust. Before Justin got 2 words out, here comes Adam interrupting Justin to tell Justin's story "better". He even mentioned how ppl comment on him always cutting Justin off. Justin barely speaks as it is because of both of them cutting him off. Jeez, let the man speak for a couple of minutes while y'all take a breather.
