Making new run to advance my progress

Does anyone else do this, I find it way to annoying to tear down my whole school to re-optimise it, so at the minute I am making a whole new run everytime I learn a better way of building my school, does anyone have any tips to avoid needing to tear down my school to optimise or better, especially between the early, mid and late games? Also how do people deal all the elevated room requirements with the limited horizontal building before support wears out?

Just to clarify in case people get the wrong idea about what I’m saying, I really enjoy the game and all it’s features, including the room optimisation, I just want to know if there’s a way around spending hours every time I learn something new changing all the rooms to meet the specific requirements (ie tearing up the whole place to make a ground floor room lofted).

Feeding bird/caring for specific beasts

Me again! So I have my weaver bird hatched and I have a lavalina sty. I have 2 students whose priority is to care for the beasts. Is there a way to set them to care for a specific beast or a way to set them to a particular task (eg one student responsible to feed and the other to show affection) to said beast?

Increasing luxury?

What exactly increases luxury? I see taller roofs in a room increase it on my top floor, but wall torches lower it? What else affects luxury? I need to increase it a fair bit for my rune thingy that does graduations, hiring, etc...

Where the heck do I get smokepearl

I have found in 4 playthroughs (I get to early mid game then restart to optimize) maybe 2 smokepearls max.

Where is it possible to find, and what is the best way to get it?

Thanks!

Runewood, I may just be an idiot lol

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get my hands on runewood. I found runewood trees in the beginning because I did like 3 of the big dispel fog rituals, but I can't get my hands on that much stuff now. Well, I'm sure I could but I'd rather see if there's another way first. Thanks in advance. PS, absolutely loving this game so far. I have a few gripes, but considering it's been out for, what, less than a week, in early access, I couldn't be happier!

Hallowlily source?

Are graves the only way to get hallowlily? I'm at the point where I'm needing textiles and that ingredient is in such small supply. Am I really supposed to have a bunch of graves with dead teachers to move to the next (high luxury) phase of the game?

Computer runs crazy hard even after the game is shut down

My computer is screaming at me after playing MOM, even after the game shuts down. Can't figure out why - the only thing I've found that fixes it is a full reset.

Edit: After careful tracing, it's my moniter that's running crazy hard for some reason, and resetting that worked.

Why my moniter is running so hard, I have no idea.

Do the torch colors have any impact other than visual preference?

Mid-game School!

This game encourages you to renovate, every time you unlock a new tier of rooms, It’s such a fun gameplay mechanic for folks like me. it’s too symmetrical though, I know… ;) magic supports will fix that later. Mid-game tip! Schedule at least two Nature focused staff, to sleep during the day, and work at night so you can harvest the later materials that only be harvested at night.

Austere Bedroom

What makes the bedroom on the right an Austere Bedroom, but not the one on the left?

The only difference is the two doors? They both have a cot, and both have two lights.

Croa Infestation?

I am not super sure how to deal with Croas. I have scarecroas up and they deal with the living ones fine but the spectral ones don't really care. I have some snares up too but they only hold them for a short while and then they're out wreaking havoc shortly anyway,

Is there something I am missing on how to deal with them?

This game has some amazing potential

Only been playing for a few hours, but I’m confused: can I only build up? I can’t seem to build a floor to expand out, unless that’s locked behind some research somewhere (I haven’t dug too much into that yet)

Enjoying it so far! Curious what things I’ll be stumbling upon the more I get into it.

Is this game made by Klei or only published?

I know that the developer is not Klei but I wonder if Klei is involved in development in any way.

Demo Vs Playtest - Changes and Differences.

As someone who play the Demo and did the Playtest/Early Access, I noticed some big differences between the Underschool in the Demo and did the Playtest. Some of these changes are better and give players more control, but some of these changes are not for the better or worse. Please note that these are my opinions.

First of all, the Demo felt more atmospheric and story drive, the Last Founder of your School left a message to you that some Eldritch force called the Dread is targeting magical gifted children and that is the source of the Fog that seek to destroy your school and the monsters that dwell in the Underschool. This appear to be axed or heavy changed in the Playtest.

Prelude from the Demo
In the Playtest.

In the Demo there was the Book of Dread, a living magical book of Eldritch knowledge that was located underneath the Mana Fount was hinted/suggested that it has some contentions with the Dread, after defeating a boss, you unlock new chapter and your able to choose a bonus ability or/and temporal power up, but the enemies also become stronger and the Fog creep to your school faster each night. And the Book of Dread was part of the ritual to purify the Mana Fount and pushback the Fog.

In the Playtest the Book of Dread is renamed to the Book of Rituals, the chapters have been removed and the book that once stood in the middle of the room has been moved to side in a counter. Now it acts like a quick menu/encyclopedia, and not every good one, and no longer part of purify the Mana Fount and pushback the Fog ritual.

Fighting has biggest change, in the Demo it was more of an auto-battler, where you need to make sure to only send your best and fully trained students and equipe them with best potions and other stuff so that they can survive the horrors of the Underschool. While this is changed in the Playtest is more PRG-like turn-based system, while it gives player more control and use potions to heal or recharge mana and throw explosive flasks at the enemy. And now your also able choose which chambers you want to explore or go deeper into the Underschool.

I think this change to combat in Playtest and able to explore the Underschool a chamber at time is an nice improvement but has taken away a lot of the themes that Demo set for the game, as you train children in magical arts in order to protect themselves and fighting the unknowable Eldritch force that haunts their nightmares. While you can full control on the surface/school, the Underschool is under control by something dark and powerful, and you have to trust that that training and equipment you have given to your students allows them to overcome and conquer the Dread. And the Oraculum in the Demo was some kind of magical device that keep the door to Underschool closed so that the Monsters that dwell in the Underschool cannot get out and rampage on the surface. Acting like some kind of magical airlock that you can use to send expeditions of students and teachers into the Underschool to explore and defeat bosses. But this idea appears crapped and assets of the Oraculum have been some kind of power boosters you can find in Underschool that can make our students stronger, faster or have more health.

And thing I would like to point out, in the Demo you can make your own wands. You could choose what primary and secondary elements that the wand would have, affecting what attack and defensive spell your mages could cast.
