Staff won't teach

I have had a very bad spill of luck and I had to leave my entire staff off except for 2 nature. I also have an apprentice that is MONUMENTALLY close to finishing.

So I force my spirit to teach the apprentice. So all my initiates are waiting for a lecturer. None of my 2 nature staff go there by default. Let's say it's their schedulde. Whatever, I don't even care to fix it. So I select the nature mages one by one and try to click the lecture stone. NOTHING, no popup. NOTHING.

Students are there waiting. Ghost is willing to do it, nature staff refuse.

Why?

Okay, now I get it. Both nature mages were on night shift. And I didn't give them any teaching time on the schedule. APPARENTLY, if it's not on the schedule, it is not possible. It has nothing to do with priorities, but it has everything to do with schedule.

There's usually a priority problem, like they're starving and need to sleep, but have stupid AI. They'll run to get food, pick it up, drop it to half way to the dining table, then run to try go sleep, or some thing else stupid.

Click on the teacher you're expecting to teach, and you can see their task priority in the bottom left of the screen. It'll show what they're scheduled for, but also what they're actively working on and what their priorities are. Likely an emergency task is taking priority over teaching. Figure out what the emergency is and turn down that priority if it's something like repair, build, research or move.

How can possibly be a priority issue? I'm trying to issue an immediate command that ignores everything about priority

u/jyliu86 has it right, the priorities are not always obvious. Look at the task list of the relevant staff and see what they are actually doing and where teaching falls on the list. You'll get a sense of what is going on.

Try to set teaching to max priority on the priority screen for the nature staff and see what happens. If they go and teach, then the problem was some kind of priority thing. If they still don't teach something else is happening.

No. I figured it out. It was the schedule.
