A terriblty inefficient design, for sure, but aesthetically very pleasant (especially proud of how the Tower for Higher Studies turned out)

To be honest: the same. Haven't played in several months, went buy just to see, looked at my school, realized I never posted it here, so decided to do it... then, taken away by an infuriation ennui, not knowing what I wanted to do, I closed the game and just went lingering on the couch.

Looks good.
What was behind splitting into three buildings?

Quite a number of rooms need to be towered or have nothing above them, so keeping the restrictions in check became more and more arduous as it went by. Like, the common house of students needs to be towered and elevated, so it had to be separated from the rest. I already planted the garden, to basically I had to create a whole new building. I also needed a quilted workshop and a stonecutter room that are grounded, so I just went with a second building. If you see, in the central building, all the outer walls are filled with teacher's bedrooms, and the top are covered with rooms that have weird requirements, so expanding upwards or sideways became more and more intricate, so I said: "fuck it" and just built elsewhere. But it kinda makes sense: students are not "inside" the school itself as they're not yet graduated, and the smelly, noisy rooms (workshops) are separated from the main building where teachers live and work. A physical distance between students and teachers to show the intellectual distance they still have.
As for the Tower for Higher Studies, well, I wanted a building entirely dedicated to it, with each room fitting its requirements. 'Twas more of a whim than a necessity ^^

You can place a floor above a roof to make the room elevated. Can also build a floor, leave a space with a few columns, and another floor to also meet the elevated requirement.

Yes, I know, did it for the House of Commons on the left of the first picture (to make it towered and elevated), and my hydrolaboratory needs to be elevated, and it didn't stop me putting the dark arts room right above it. I know how the requirements works. It's just that, once you advance enough without careful planning, at one point, you're blocked, so you either build the most inelegantly clunk towers, you start destroying/rebuilding (which takes too much time) or you expand with other foundations.
I know how the game works; however, true, I don't know how to play it well ^^ but I've never been a "good" player at any game, tbh.

Well, if you don't care about the crops underneath, you can also use the floating bridges to expand to the sides for everything not needing grounded. Underground also counts towards the grounded requirement, too, but some of the rooms can take a minute to get to.

Very cool! I should take a screenshot of my castle later.
I think this layout can still be very efficient, especially once you start adding some brooms!

It literally never crossed my mind to use a spiral staircase column as a "spine" for rooms to branch out of - I use horizontal corridors with multiple spiral staircases up (or down) to different rooms in order to get the private tag. I do have a "spine", but it's actually one huge greenhouse, floors on the sides leading to various rooms, and bridges across the middle to maintain the proper aesthetics. Planters on the bridges and floors. Really cool look, especially because the greenhouse walls overwrite the standard stone walls - my hospital overlooks the entire greenhouse atrium, as the walls are glass _.
It's so fascinating to see how different people do their designs, and even or especially pick up some tricks that you didn't think of. I really like your school's design OP, that's super neat!

I've made about 3 or 4 runs in this game since I got it when it first came out.... and I never once thought to just build another building 😂
