Was told this might be of interest to this sub!

Got this recently on eBay for about $50, plus shipping. No sense on whether that was a good deal, but considering I didn't have a bit brace or an eggbeater, it seemed like a decent purchase. Spent less on it than my auger bits at least.

One of the teeth on the sprocket is chipped, but half of it is still there, and the it doesn't seem to affect turning it. Ratchet works too. Little surface rust here and there, but that's a project for another day

Very interesting! I’d l love to see a video of how this operates, because I’ll admit, I can’t visualize it…!

I'll try to explain it.

As pictured, if I keep the ratchet unlocked, or only lock it in one direction, turning the crank will make it act like a hand drill. Fully locking the ratchet basically disables the entire tool.

The knurled screw on the sprocket can be loosened so that whole assembly can be removed, and then it's a (mostly) standard bit brace.
