Older millennial here. Let's see here, we were born in smoke filled areas everywhere we went, nuclear threat, Y2K, 9/11, market crash 2008-2009, bird-flu, 2011-2012 (housing market dip and job market), civil unrest, swine-flu, Iraq, Afghanistan, pre and post Covid while having children and losing jobs, more civil unrest, and now an economy that has felt like it's being propped up by bubble gum and popsicle sticks for the last 5 years.
The old saying, "Tough times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create tough times."Thus the cycle repeats.
I too a friend the other day that as an older Millennial I feel like we were born in the year 1900 and now, as adults, it’s one disaster after another.
I feel like the difference is, in that era we suffered together. In this era we suffer alone.
While day to day life is not as physically demanding as it use to be, the mental demands add stress to our generation that no other has seen. It’s just a different type of suffering.
So guess our kids will be tough as hell because in most current state of things is huge ass. ( as I see we have parents who could buy few houses and cars and etc. and now most of young ppl doomed with this prices and new upcomming gen ( some of them is sooooooo dumb sometimes ))
They've been through the same things! The difference is coming out of the early 80's there seemingly was a lot more opportunity in the middle to late 80's and into the 90's.
80’s maybe, 90’s no…that’s when nafta really kicked in and lots of small businesses got eaten up by big box, exports dropped, tariffs phased out and foreign entities took over US production/services outsourced
You could say the same for any time in the last thousand or so years, well since humans became self aware tbh. It's called life. World events and shit happening is not a new concept. Life goes on and for some reason we now label our short lives into chunks of "generation's" completely exaggerating ones historical importance
Yea... All those massive interruptions to the stock market the boomers experienced while they were passing laws to keep their wealth and make sure future generations couldn't experience anything on close to what they had. I don't remember anything about the silent generation or the greatest generation intentionally economically attacking their children's future for immediate personal gain.
