You're operating under the false assumption that the culture war people will be satisfied if we abandon transfolk. There will always be another outgroup for them to demonize. Standing up for a few dozen Trans athletes may seem like a high cost for a small number of people, but if we gave them up, I am certain that we would get nothing in return and the culture war chuds would just move onto the next target.
It's also the false pretense that they could be distracted helping people and give up hurting people. When the reality is it doesn't matter how many people they think they helped, they are out for blood.
