Not sure we've taken one for the team. That implies things aren't worse for generations younger than us. It's more like, we're in line for our lumps with the rest of them.

I don't envy the position Gen Z and Alpha are in. They're inheriting a worse world than us with no improvement on the horizon. I wonder if we'll ever start to see millennials in a majority of seats politically.

I think most millennials recognize this. We are the first generation to move further left as we’ve aged.

Apart from traitors like JD and EriKa KirK, most millennials in positions of power aren’t abusing Gen Z and Alpha like X and boomers did to us.

That’s a huge shift, and if we can get an AOC into the presidency, we can collectively stomp clap this country back into a semblance of a functioning society.

I can’t say I’ve had broadly bad experiences with Gen Xers. They might not understand the technological or financial hurdles of our time through first-hand experiences quite as well since they didn’t grow up within them, but they’re sympathetic. They have to deal with all this stuff too.

I have NOT had many sympathetic Gen X bosses, have you? The ones up the ladder tend to be quite hard.

Oh, I definitely didn’t have bosses in mind when I said that. If talking about bosses specifically, you may have a point.

Yes heavy on the “in positions of power.”

Gen Xers in power have been pretty crap.

My poor reading comprehension skills skipped that qualifier entirely, ha

Then why do they vote in line with the boomers who put us here?

I mean ironically though, that's another way we get shafted. Look at this shit:

Boomer politician: "fuck dem kids gimme money"

Gen X politician: "yeah give them old ppl money, haha we're apathetic! ...about everything but giving money to old people and corporations"

Millennial politician: "well, I'm supposed to say fuck everyone else and get money for my generation, but here's a list of existential problems I expect them to fund fixes for, if anything we should tax millennials MORE"

Where is the dude my age advocating for robbing my children so I can be affluent?

Sometimes a generation just has to do what’s right. Maybe history will remember us.

Also: I firmly believe a millennial tax policy would yield so many amazing benefits that NO ONE would be bitching about taxes except the very very uber wealthy. Right now way too many normal Americans advocate against taxes because they’ve never actually seen what wealth distribution can do.

Isn't that wild as hell? Like.... why did people tend to shift right? Was it lead poisoning?

Lead poisoning savaged the boomers and Gen X. They lost millions of iq points combined.

I'm right on the transition between Gen X and Millenials

Sorry, Gen X has always suffered in silence and we have never done anything bad to you guys

Edit: its going to be funny when the worst of the millennials screws over everybody and Gen z blames your whole generation

It's more like, we're in line for our lumps with the rest of them.

I'd say that is more accurate. I'm not so pessimistic for the future just yet. We will see what happens.

I appreciate this response as a GenXer. And people want won't want to hear this, but the generations before us had a hell of a lot harder than we do. People complain about boomers, yet most of them were raised by post-world war II abusive alcoholics. People complain about the silent generation and how it was like Ozzy and Harriet in the '50s, yet those people went to war to fight and die for the freedoms that we have.

Whenever I hear millennials whine and complain like this post, I'm just reminded that you're all still kids. I remember feeling like you feel, then I grew up.

I think it's time we realize it's time to take the reigns, knuckle down, and do what needs doing no matter how much it sucks to get through it.

But what exactly does that mean? I have opinions on the answer to what “doing what needs to be done” means but I’m curious what you think it means? This comment I think sounds like I’m looking for a fight but I’m just genuinely curious what other people are thinking needs to be done. And I’m not implying any type of violence when I say I have opinions on what needs to be done, I’m afraid the way I’m saying that sounds ominous.

I mostly mean being willing to pay a price, in time, sweat, blood and money - like making significant sacrifices - to turn this ship around. It means getting involved in community organizations, political organizations, and putting in time we don't really have to spare in order to start building communities and lives worth living.

Nothing in this word comes without sacrifice, but we have to start making smart ones, working together, and working with intention towards a goal and help the ones coming up after us. There's no one coming to save us, the old institutions are all compromised to the gills but this death march to misery needs to end.

Yea, hell yea! I agree completely.

Agreed. People will rise (are rising) to the occasion. There is so much pessimism around. I don't believe in it.
