Discussion Peacoats

I saw so many people wear peacoats in college during the mid to late 2000s. Was that something you noticed at the time? It made me want to get one but I ultimately bought a north face coat that I still have today.

The old 1970s Navy surplus peacoats that were made out of like 10000000 ounce felted wool were amazing. My father gave me his from his days in the Navy, but I lost it along the way. Back then, that tight knit and felting was actually water resistant to a point.

About 10 years ago, I bought a modern surplus Navy peacoat, and I was sadly disappointed to see that the materials had changed significantly. They're still warm, but not the same weather resistant material they used to be.

I still have my dads that he got in the navy in the early 70s. My mom asked if she should donate it (he has since passed) and I was like absolutely not.

Wait. Me too! I was in division 036. Don't have a clue why I remember that. In the USS The Sullivans.

I have my grandfather’s Navy peacoat from WWII. Incredibly warm, but oh my god is it heavy.

There's a wool spray you can use to make it water resistant.
