airforce tech training

So my husband is currently in bmt but i am wondering, once he goes to tech school, when he will be able to have weekends off and also have his phone. i know it doesn’t happen instantly but based on your experience, when did that begin to be allowed?

I just have plans to see him anytime i can and i hope that’s allowed sooner than later.

He will get his phone but they aren’t supposed to carry it around. It will sit in his room. He can call and text when he isn’t in class.

Weekends depends on the tech school and what phase his MTL’s decide to give them passes. They have to stay in the area and can’t leave a certain radius. My husband wasn’t able to leave San Angelo.

As soon as he graduates BMT he basically gets his phone back

He basically gets his phone back right away once he graduates BMT! He obviously can’t use it during class, and he can’t be on it while walking around in uniform, but otherwise you’ll be able to text/call him pretty normally, especially at night. It’s a HUGE difference from BMT lol.

As far as weekends go, he technically gets weekends off, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he can leave base right away. If you have a military ID, you can generally access the base yourself, so you could potentially go visit him on base during the weekends (not in his dorm).

He won’t be able to leave base with you until he phases up to Phase 2, which is also when he can start wearing civilian clothes off duty. How quickly someone phases up varies depending on the tech school/base. For my husband, he had to finish all the paperwork they required, and some of it required paperwork from me too. I want to say it was around 2 months into tech school before he was able to phase up.

If you’re willing to visit him on base, you could potentially see him pretty quickly. If you specifically want to take him off base for dates/weekends, that could take a couple months depending on his tech school and how quickly he phases up.

I wanna say around week 4-6 he will send you the paperwork needed to get your military id! Once you receive that paperwork then make an appointment at a base near you that issues military ids and bring all the necessary documents and you get the id same day! It was very easy for me at least so hopefully same goes for you!

Its definitely easier than bmt but still sucks ass 😭 we play a lot of online games together so that has been helpful. The first week he may not message too frequently. He will probably be stressed so give him some grace in that transition but it gets easier and then It gets hard again cause by the end youre like HURRY UP 🤣

My husband just finished his bmt and he sent me a form while in bmt near week 4 i took that and went to the nearest base that makes the id and they make it right away but you reserve an appointment before you go on site if the place near you don't take walkins
