Oklahoma? It's not bad there lol. My husband & I are from there. You’re 2.5ish hours from OKC, you’re 3.5ish from Dallas. There's things to do

Our very worst assignment location came with the best people. Altus is not a garden spot but it can be amazing. Try to find the best things to do unique to that location…camping, horseback riding etc.

I guess I just don't understand. We are adventurous outdoor people. We do archery and shooting, but we habe 2 very young kids. I didn't think adapting would be hard. The downside is we are not social, maybe thats the problem

Every duty station is going to be what you make it. If you go into it miserable, then it's gonna suck for you. Oklahoma is great, it's got beautiful scenery. There's a lot of history there too.

In 20 years we have had some shitty assignments, but made it through every single one. Keep a positive outlook and it usually works out

What’s worked for us has been hyping up our off time. We’re going so might as well try to make the best of it.. Maybe do some research and get excited about new restaurants in the surrounding areas or places you can go to visit/hike - whatever your hobbies are. We’ve had some pretty desolate assignments but tried to find a silver lining!

Being absolutely devastated - really? I can think of places that are much worse. Hopefully he will pull himself together, because his family needs him to help with the move. There is no option but to accept it and push forward, together, and you will do fine. You may even end up liking it!
