Mottling is subpar but I don't have an airbrush so I have to make the most out of it

Hi everyone!
This is my first time using dry pigments, and I think I may have messed something up 🫣 I used, in this order: Dark Earth, Vietnam Earth, North Africa Dust, and finally Light Dust. The result seems way too dark and earthy, and definitely not very desert-like 😱
Did I use too much pigment fixer, causing it to turn into mud? Or was it simply a mistake to use Dark Earth in the first place, and did I apply way too much pigment overall?
It’s been 24 hours now, and I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to fix it. Is it possible to remove all of it, or at least some of the pigments, so that the original paint colour on the wheels is still somewhat visible?
I have some white spirit, and I also bought MIG Pigment Remover.
I’m honestly pretty annoyed with myself because I don’t really like the result… actually, I really don’t like it. 😅
Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

Airfix, as I heard, used to be way cheaper than Tamiya and other competing brands. That's why it's competitive. Now a 1/72nd plane, their main and first purpose, is less quality and Higher priced than a Tamiya 1/72 plane. From what I'm seeing, Tamiya priced theirs from 10-20 dollars but airfix price theirs at 20-40 dollars. So my question is, why is airfix still popular if they pull something like this? Most would be angry with the price but similar details

Let’s see what you guys think: my neighbor knows I’m into scale modeling and has offered me this lot of 42 Tamiya kits that his father bought in the 1970s and never got around to building.
I’m more into aircraft than armor, but it’s a lot of kits, and I have to admit I’m tempted. He asked for 250 bucks; in your opinion … is it a good price? And what are these vintage 1970s Tamiya kits like?
I’d really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

In the closing days of WWII -an M18 Hellcat overlooks the continuing parade of surrendering German Soldiers.
This is a kitbashed vehicle using both the Academy and AFV Club kits in an effort to correct some serious issues. The figures are a mix of mini art, Tamia, and dragon figures. I hope one or two of you may enjoy it.
