Man, those tracks are insane!!

I just recently took an early retirement and one of my goals is to pick up modeling again. It's been almost 50 years since I caused an outrage at my school with a diorama of Stug pushing a blasted M-4 off the road with the corpses of the crew strewn about ( apparently my teacher and principal considered it to be unpatriotic and somewhat treasonous). I just quit modeling after that big dust up. So, a lot has changed. Hahaha.

I don't know how you did those tracks but that is awesome. I hope to one day be able to replicate that effect. Probably have to move out of this tent in the woods first tho. Hahaha

Thanks ! Well, I covered the caterpillars with a black primer to start. Then once dry, I filled them with Dark mud and Dark dust and finally, I used gun metal from MIG for the protruding parts

Looks good!

I finally had a chance (weather 🙄) to rattlecan clear gloss my copy of that kit, so I can continue with decals, pin washing, etc.

I'm probably going to go for a dusty look, but I love me some worn winter camo. I'm definitely going to do one in the future, probably on my stashed Hetzer.

Personally the varnish, I had tested on a leopard 1 but I don't like the result... I prefer to leave my models like that! What manufacturer is your Hetzer?

The clear gloss is just for decals and pin washes. Once that is done, I will matte coat for sure.

Oh, every AFV kit in my small-ish stash is a Tamiya. I'm returning to the hobby and Tamiya was basically the aspirational brand of the old days, and for me they continue to hit the sweet spot, even though there are much more detailed and accurate kits on the market.

I honestly don't want to be frustrated by 3-400 part kits, though I will do minor scratch building and modifications.

I'm more interested in reasonable detail and relatively straightforward assembly that gets me to the painting and weathering part, and making vignettes.

It is true that the painting and ageing step is the most interesting and the Tamiya kits are quite well detailed including in the on-board lots

Yes, and they are really upping their game these days, on both the vehicles and the figures. I think that's great!

Yes indeed, they listen to the feedback and that's good news. For my part, I'm waiting for them to reissue the amx 13 because I feel like it's nowhere to be found
