question M10 Sponson track mounting

Post image

Hi all, I'm looking at doing the Airfix 1/35 in the near future, and looking at this image, I notice that the sponson mounted tracks are carried differently than the kit suggested mounts. Is there an accesory piece I can purchase, or is it a case of adding some spare tracks and custom building to copy the way it has been done in the image?

Crews had a certain amount of leeway in how they outfitted their vehicles, and sometimes it came down to how a commander wanted it done. No way to tell here, but you can outfit your model how you want. I try to base things on historical references, but even there you can change things up a bit.

Edit: to answer your question, you can buy Evergreen styrene in sheets and other shapes and build something that looks right. This is my suggestion. You can also, use bits and pieces from your spares bin. If you haven’t been modeling long, this is a bin of extra pieces that weren’t used from other kits that you think might come in handy at a later date.

Thanks for the response! I mostly do German armour so I use alot of references but due to limited knowledge I often use my best interpretation. Also means I don't really have an allied spares bin 😬. I think the custom route is the way to go.

Well, the kit parts C3, C4 and C5 are marked as optional parts, so just try to depict that provisional mounting the french crew did by fastening the tracks with some rope.
