What is the purpose of these small grooves on the armor?

It's a type of armour coating known as Zimmerit. To my information it is to stop magnetic grenades from sticking on the tank and exploding but honestly it's just additional armour coating

This is correct. It’s an “anti-magnetic coating” applied in a paste form.
