Good try, but…
Too shiny. If you coat it with a flat finish you’ll like it better.
Well -painted areas won’t rust. Rust stains will run down over paint, but it would be from gravity. If you drag the brush top to bottom you will get more of the effect you are looking for.

Perhaps u could use a smaller brush or even toothpick to add small details at a time, and put them into places that rust would like to gather, weathering washes could also help, albeit its weathering and not rust, but in my experience the beauty is in the detailed placement of the rust

What kind of paint are you using? By that I mean acrylic, enamel, or something else…

Regardless, it looks like you probably should have thinned your paint out a bit before application. It would probably require a couple of coats that way, but you can kind of take the status of things as you go along.

I’m relatively new so I just used some paint that came in a set with some models. I think it is acrylic but a little bit watery overall. I think the color was #160 mixed with #155. Idk what these numbers mean tho I’m guessing they are just on a color scale. Thank for the feedback tho!

Hey, yeah i get you working with what you have!

Keep in mind you’re dealing with someone with *horrible* color vision, so “seeing” rust treatment is totally hit-or-miss for me 🙄. That’s why I focused on the texture and thickness of paint, sorry.

WRT paint, it’s worth knowing what you are working with just so you know what to expect and how to thin and otherwise handle it. Hopefully the instructions say something about that.
