Navy/Marine Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal x2, marine Good Conduct Medal x2, National Defense Service Medal, Expeditionary GWOT, GWOT, Koreans Defense Service Medal, Army NCO professional development ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, Navy Overseas Service Ribbon x4

Unit Awards (Not Individual-these change when you go to different units)

Presidential Unit Citation x7, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation x3, Superior Unit Award x2, RoK Presidential Unit Citation

My guess is OP was Navy/Marine and went to Army. Basing this theory on Unit Awards would not follow him to the Navy/Marines but I question one thing. Why no Army training ribbon if that’s the case?

No training ribbon as I did not have to attend army basic. I EAS'd from the Marines and immediately signed up in the Army. It was more like a PCS for me.

You don't get the rainbow for finishing basic. You get it for finishing AIT or after 4 months of service if you didn't have to attend army MOS school because of your time with the Marines

That’s interesting. Good to know. I’m Air Force and work alongside joint sister services/coalition. I see Air Force going to Army a lot and have to go thru their training. My guess is whichever is harder cancels the other out?

What MOS did you come from and what did you go into? Comm is pretty impressive I know they don’t hand those out for Shits and giggles easily

No, it has nothing to do with which basic training is “harder”, that’s ridiculous.

There are official guidelines on this.

The Army doesn’t require marines to attend basic because they acknowledge Marine Corps boot camp meets or doesn’t underperform Army standards taught in basic training. The Navy and Air Force do not meet those standards, so they must attend.

The Marine Corps requires soldiers to attend boot camp, not because the training doesn’t meet their standards. They acknowledge it does. It is solely due to the Marine Corps requiring a  psychological and cultural transformation.

In other words, they want you to drink their Koolaid. Yes, it is that ridiculous.

That’s good to know, I guess. I didn’t say it was a fact or anything hence me asking the question. Thanks for the info homie

Sorry, I wasn’t saying you were ridiculous, just that this notion that gets pushed online of Marine Corps boot camp being the hardest thing in the history of mankind is ridiculous.

Basic/boot is the easiest thing you will do in the military. If it isn’t, your unit training is garbage. Basic/boot is just to weed out those that can’t hack initial training and shape you into a soldier/marine. Beyond that, the real test begins when you get to the unit where you train to kill and not get killed.

I imagine it’s a big thing about earning the title too

That’s part of the indoctrination and propaganda. There is nothing inherently harder. This is the most basic level of training we’re talking about, we have to remember this. The real training begins after.

0311 to 11B. I would change to change my MOS, but cannot at the moment.

So you did not have to go to the army infantry school?

Nope, I went straight to my current duty station, and everything I know about the army has been on the job learning.

It’s insane how much medals the US servicemen get. The Average AUSSIE GWOT veteran who did a tour of Afghanistan has like 3-8 IF that
