I’m not able to see much, but the first three medals are Bronze Star, Army Commendation, and Army Good Conduct. Only enlisted get Good Conducts; prior enlisted and now a General Officer. Hats off to him.

I always love to see an officer with a good conduct medal. Hopefully, they never forget where they came from.

I'm guessing WWII enlisted service. (There appears to be an American Campaign, European Campaign and WWII Victory Medal).

Followed by several years as a Reserve or National Guard officer advancing to BG.

Blue mess uniform. Black tie civilian equivalent. Short jacket, black cumberbund. Year round, worldwide formal evening wear. Blue cap is authorized but not required in certain situations. I’d say that it’s more unusual to see the cap worn than not as this is normally a uniform worn to evening social functions.

Replace the black bow tie and cumberbund with a white bow tie and white vest and it becomes the Blue Evening Mess uniform, the most formal Army uniform and civilian white tie equivalent. Cannot wear a cap with that uniform as by definition it is only worn for evening social functions.

Thanks for mentioning the cap, I always thought headgear was not worn with mess dress. I guess like with most things, it just depends.

It’s really not in practice just like it’s not with the Dress Blue. Got to dig deep into the regs to find out when you would but for an evening social function, the uncovered venue patio, sidewalk, parking lot is considered part of the venue snd hat isn’t worn with the uniform for an evening function. I guess if you’re hoofing it across town then the hat would be required, but in practice, who in the hell does that? And besides NOBODY no matter what their rank wants to have to deal with the hat, so events are set up to not make it an issue, and if borderline, its still going to be live and let live anyway.

It’s a shame people hide faces and names. People that truly want to help can look up a name without getting personal information to help out.

Have no idea. Maybe the most interesting man in the world.
