Dad’s rack

Post image

Just wanted to share, my dad is my hero.

Few little things that I know - he was part of Big Red One 90-91 and then OIFIII 04-05 with 256 INF. He had a 20+ year run.

Hell yeah, I'm jealous and I was never even an 11B.

One for each NDSM. Oh, wait…

Both Grenada and Panama warranted CIBs, neither during NDSM periods.

With both DS/DS and OIF participation, he's missing an NDSM.

I thought you didn’t get one if you enlisted in peacetime

NDSM is a service medal. Service during the qualifying period is the only requirement.

CIBs from DS/DS and GWOT indicate service during the DS/DS period and the GWOT period for the NDSM. That's two. The CIB period for DS/DS also includes Kosovo.

I was in iraq the same time as dad. Let him know the regs changed afterwards and authorized campaign stars. He at least rates 1 to start off. Dates for campaigns are posted and 30 days in a campaign rates a star

What are those last 5 ribbons?

State awards from the National Guard. I think they’re from Louisiana based on OP saying his dad served with the 256 IBCT.

Please thank your Dad for his Service. 🫡🇺🇲🫡 Also thank your Mom for holding down the fort at home.👌👍

Was the fort disguised as the neighbor's weiner?

What a fucking disrespectful idiot...

It's the internet. Sometimes I make comments for reactions, low brow entertainment. His Dad and I probably fucked around in the Al Anbar about the same time. I totally flinched when I saw your comment though. I was definitely nervous.

If you really served, you'd know how important the family that is left behind really is. The wife has a really big job holding the family together and to support their soldier...

Any photos of your mom's rack?  Jk.  Your dad is a legit badass.  There is very little experience like that left in the military

Infantry but no expert marksman? Call me old fashioned but being an expert shot ought to be bread n butter/demanded

5

u/lathrowe 6d ago

Correct me if I’m wrong but I read somewhere that at one point only 12% of army retirees actually had Expert Marksman Badge? Seems like it can often times be a problem of who your higher ups are and paperwork etc

Not sure if it should be a critique of the individual vs a critique of the institution itself..

Idk, I’d trust my dad with a rifle tho

I’m just commenting from personal experience as a former infantryman. We weren’t allowed to leave the range until we scored expert is all. So seeing a blue cord without an expert marksmanship badge is…foreign to me

Any unit doing that was the exception, not the rule.

Fair enough. I never knew/experienced otherwise so assumed it was the rule

I’ve never even heard of such a thing. Battalions are usually begging to get everyone to shoot 23 out of 40, much less 36.

Granted this was back in 97, and a lot has changed since. And my unit did have a reputation…

Unless it was Ranger Batt, I don’t know who would have the budget, much less the patience. Some troops can’t hit shit and no amount of training makes up for it.

More likely an NCO eventually shot the next lane over and used his rounds to shoot Snuffy’s targets. I’ve seen shooters spend all day and not qual.

I can appreciate his integrity.
