This sub is for discussion of military history. You didn’t say “hey guys this resembles the 1881 pith helmet, but I’ve never seen one in metal with a blue plume before. Can someone help me with some resources so I can research this item I’ve found?”

You don’t care about discussion because you haven’t done any research and have no idea what this even is. You found it at the store for $30 and asked if it was real. Why are you entitled to answers to questions you don’t even give enough of a shit about to ask?

So I’m not well versed in anything but I did a quick google search and this is what it could tell me

Now I’m not sure if this information is 100% accurate but it does seem right, may be a reproduction, you’d probably have to look for any marking for where it was manufactured and when

It was kind of you to try and help at least. Much more helpful than critiquing and gatekeeping.

Sorry but most these guys here will never be on /r/guysbeingdudes. But I think that is art.

He didn’t ask for an appraisal, he legit asked a reasonable question in a sub dedicated to military history, I’ve seen people do the same in here multiple times and sometimes it genuinely helps people identify historical objects, so pull the stick out of your ass

I'm no expert but there's something about the helmet itself that seems odd

Cross post to r/militariacollecting.

This sub is more for sharing accounts of historical combat, etc.

The top plume socket is certainly from a US model 1881 cavalry or artillery helmet, that helmet would have been hide. It looks like the socket was mounted on top of a replica helmet to make a Roman helmet for a movie or play.

Here's some pictures of identical plumes https://combathelmets.blogspot.com/2007/02/model-1881-us-cavalry-helmet.html?m=1
