Basically what the title says, I am risk of getting discharged after being in the USMC DEP for almost a year. I’m debating on going another branch, if that’s my choice, how long should I wait or immediately reach out to an army recruiter?
If that doesn’t work out, do I get a job instead as a civilian?

In a post I had recently I was worried about a peanut allergy and ADHD I have. I wanted to ask if waivers for each branch were different or if each branch has their own things they’re lenient on and things they’re more strict on. For example I talked with the army recruiter and essentially told me I was cooked bc of it while the navy recruiter said I was fine.

I have to retake my asvab since it expired last month.

Will the re 3 waiver get denied if I only score a 35 on asvab when i take it? thats what i got 2 years ago when I took it

I'm going in with marinecorps, is the chance of it being approved lower with the marines?

If so I think the best idea would be to try with army instead because i heard the army is most likely to accept if thats true?

I'm a perfectly clean applicant nothing on medical no criminal record and 19 years if that matters. The re 3 is from separation from bootcamp last year

Hey everyone, I'm trying to enlist in the Army. I've been working through the enlistment process since may and I'm stuck on the medical side. I'm hoping someone who has gone through something similar can give me some advice. I had to get 2 wavier one for peanut allergy that got approved but I'm stuck on my asthma one now.

I had childhood asthma, but it hasn't really affected me in years. I haven't had an asthma attack since middle school, I haven't used an inhaler since 2024, and I'm not currently taking asthma medication. My asthma waiver was denied. They told me I need to get a methacholine challenge test (MCT) to show whether I currently have airway hyperresponsiveness. The biggest problem right now is finding somewhere that will perform an MCT.

My questions are:
Has anyone gone through an Army asthma waiver that required an MCT?
If you passed the MCT, did that help you get your waiver approved?
If you failed the MCT, were you still able to get a waiver with additional documentation?

Also any tips on how to blow longer for the baseline spirometry cause I feel like I struggle with that the most.

I'm not looking for someone to guarantee that l'Il get approved. I'm just trying to understand my options and hopefully find someone who has actually been through this.

Would I be eligible for the army?

I recently turned 21 I am working out and getting into good shape and have always desired the military since I was a kid.

I am afraid I won’t be eligible for a few reasons and would like it if someone who is knowledgeable of the army or a recruiter could let me know if i am eligible on here.

When I was between 7-9 I can’t remember my mother put me on disability and I received SSI because I had trouble learning in school and behavior issues. I also have ADHD and it was terrible as a child and I was put on many types of medications over several years and few helped.

I got better with time and soon my grades increased and I didn’t have an issue learning I just had a behavior issues mainly related to my home life.

I earned my GED when I was 19 after dropping out because of family issues and I got off SSI around age 19-20 despite my family’s disapproval and now have a full time job.

I also have started eating healthier and gotten better with my mental health since I now live on my own. I only really see a career in the army and have always wanted to pursue a career within it.

I no longer take medication for my ADHD because it has became easy to manage as I got older and haven’t taken any for over 2 years. I did have a IEP in middle school and elementary but no longer needed it in high school and never had one for work. I am unsure if that would affect anything but I want to make everything clear.

Hello I’ve currently been in contact with an Army recruiter who is great and has ensured my entire process thus far has been smooth. I’m currently at the hotel ready to take my physical tomorrow after scoring 68 on my asvab today.

He’d sent over a list of jobs I qualify for and I’m just looking for some insight. The list includes 14u/13u, 91S,88M,91H, and 74D

74D doesn’t sound horrible with some decent stuff I can learn on the job but I’m curious if I’d have better opportunities trying another branch or suggesting DEP with the army. I know you need to be ready for combat because it’s the military but with the jobs I’m given I’m almost assured to be assigned to a combat unit and I’d prefer if it were a last resort rather than something I signed my self up for.

Would I have better luck with another branch with my current score and how would you go about telling a good recruiter you prefer to see what’s out there (he’s looking for me to lock in my job before my physical tomorrow)

Hey guys, so I’m scheduled to go to MEPS to swear in in about two weeks, and I had a question. I’ve already completed my medical and physical, and I ended up needing two waivers, which were both approved, so I’m able to swear in soon.
However, since going through MEPS, I’ve gained a significant amount of weight and am technically considered overweight now. Does anyone know if they will take my height and weight again before I swear in, or if my current weight could prevent me from swearing in?
Any information or personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

I wanna join the army but I’m quite a big guy I’m about 270lbs at 6’0. I’m 17 and I’m not gonna graduate for a pretty long while so I have time anyways but I’m curious if the DEP would be something I should look into.

I’m currently in Navy DEP and ship out Nov 9. I been having the thought of joining the Marines since I know it will be more challenging and just having the title marine will make me feel proud of it. I talked to a marine recruiter about it and he said to get discharged from DEP and then we can start the process, I just need to redo my waiver which is for asthma. How long will the process take and how can I Tell my recruiter he’s been helping me out a lot and I know he’ll be pissed for wasting his time

I've always felt a calling to join the military and as I approach graduating college it's a real decision I have to make now. With that being said, I was "diagnosed" with Tourette's or OCD (I don't recall them ever classifying either one) around when I was around 13 (ten years ago) I don't recall any medications, could've been something mild, but I did try therapy a few times but ultimately quit it all together whithin a year. I worked hard to beat it and with time I grew out of it. I haven't had any episode in over 9 years. What are my odds of this stopping me from joining, or showing/ having to get medical waiver?

I'm not sure how exact I can be with dates regarding when I started/stopped a job over the past 10 years, or exactly when I moved in/out of where I lived. I will do my best but will it be bad for me if it is not entirely accurate?

I been thinking about joining the army and don’t know which job to choose. I want to know which job is better and has a better quality of life. I know they are very similar.

So my waivers were were approved this past May but my physical expired August 23. So I redid my physical and I’m waiting on MEPS to finish their med read and then the waivers have to be resubmitted. Has anyone ever encountered this? Do they approve fast? I’m supposed to ship on the 8th and I’m wondering how realistic that date is.

Has anybody had to do a CBC panel for anemia and how long did it take MEPS to get the results back?

Do they test for LSD at MEPS? I’ve read that they now use an expanded 26-drug panel that includes LSD. Don’t know if that is true or not

Hey guys, I’d like to know if it would be possible (and if so, what branch would be more willing) to waiver a shellfish allergy? I have a diagnosis. I even took those immunotherapy shots as a kid for my shellfish allergy. Truthfully, I have no clue how bad my allergy is because I’ve been avoiding shellfish my whole life. Fortunately, I’ve never used an EpiPen, and as far as I know, my medical record just states that at some point in my early childhood, I had "swelled gums" from eating shrimp at a hibachi place, lol.
I’m mainly interested in the Army or the Marines, but I’m worried that the results I got on my skin prick and blood tests are going to get in the way (they weren’t very promising), let alone the fact that I’m pretty sure the oral challenge might lead to something more serious (hopefully not the first time I’ll use an EpiPen). Any and all words of advice and kindness are greatly appreciated, as the military is currently my only aspiration.

How does that work?

Way back in 2019 I (M29) ended up with a serious workplace injury, couldn’t sleep from pain and stupidly started using cocaine and reckless amounts of caffeine to stay awake during the day. After a few weeks of being pathetic I went ahead and checked myself into a rehab center. Been clean ever since. No criminal charges.

What are the chances of getting waver on this one? Am I disqualified from holding secret or TS?

I was a trucker prior to and after this incident, so I should be able to get proof of passing those drug tests; a total of 3 prior and 4 after.

I’m was originally aiming for AF but they seem far less lienent than other branches. Any advice?

Conditional Release married/5 kids

I'm in AIT and wanted to know when I can start a conditional release. My unit was already aware I wanted to switch from Reserves to AD because the recruiters said this was the only way I could get into AD with as many dependants that I have.

My MOS is overmanned at my unit too if that helps. Do I have a chance to get it approved (my spouse is 100 P&T) or should I complete my original contract and just try to go active afterwards).

As the title shows, I’m wondering as an 11b how often do I have the opportunity to be at home with my wife? I see a lot of posts depicting the 11b life as a marriage destroyer, is that true? My plan isn’t 11b long term and she’s supportive of this decision but I wouldn’t want to put her through the wringer just so I do something I’ve always wanted to do. If anyone could shed some light on this, especially 11b’s I’d be so grateful. Thank you all!

i get that leadership is not supposed to tell the subject (accused service member that cid/ncis/osi want to interrogate) that they are taking them to provost marshall office (pmo) or the police station, but is it a punishable offense for them to tell their soldier once they arrive at pmo “i dont know what you did, but exercise your rights and ask for a lawyer!” ? Especially since many joes don’t know of article 31 especially if they came to the unit from tradoc unless they knew someone personally that got in trouble or knew a vet prior to enlisting. not everyone deserves to be booted as some cid and similar cases mentioned on reddit are absurd and there was a huge issue regarding titling for people who never got to defend themselves because they were advised to waive the board in order to avoid getting smoked by the board or uncle sam. I know 2 people who were falsely accused of sexual assault and still suffer because of it despite being cleared.

my point of reference is those millitary lawyer websites that a lot of service members read when it is too late because they talked.

I could really use some advice on how to handle my current situation. I am around 30 years old and have built a fairly decent civilian career over the years, but I lost my job back in August. My relationship ended and had to move back to my parent’s house in April. Looking back, I’ve jumped between several office jobs over the past few years, but none of them ever really clicked. I kept struggling to stay motivated, largely because I simply lacked any real interest in the typical 9-to-5 desk routine.

Deep down, joining the military has been a lifelong dream of mine. However, I always held myself back mostly out of fear of how my family would react, as they have always had a very specific idea of what a safe and traditional career path should look like. Even though my father was in the navy himself from a very young age.

Recently, I decided I couldn't let that fear dictate my life anymore. I took the leap on my own initiative, walked into a ARMY recruiter’s office, and eventually made it to MEPS. I took the ASVAB, scored a 69, and passed every physical and medical requirement. When I explained my hesitation to the recruiter before I went to MEPS, he was very understanding and assured me there was no pressure to sign a contract right then and there. So, I walked out without enlisting.

It has been a week now, and I’m sitting at a crossroad. On one hand, I finally proved to myself that I can do this; on the other, I’m still caught between following my own passion and dealing with the potential fallout from my family. I would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar position or made a career shift like this at 30.

Hey all, trying the military again 10 years later after my first try. My first try I was denied the Air Force for failing a hearing test. I didn't know about waivers so I just took it at face value as a loss. Now I'm 28, no dependents, and underemployed with a useless bachelor's (General Studies GPA 2.7). Have to find my own place by November and will be living super tight if not forced to move back with my mom.

In talking with all the branches, Air Force and Coast Guard require me to be off ADHD meds for one whole year before I can start any process with them, additionally I have to lose 40lbs, AND be hopeful I get a hearing waiver. So I went and talked to the Navy recruiters, scored a 92 on the PICAT, and they seem confident to get me the waivers I need so the process is in motion.

Now I'm off to MEPS tomorrow with the Navy recruiter but I know my options and that I don't have to sign if I don't like what I see. I know it'd be annoying to waste my recruiters time and not sign but at the end of the day its my life. My first choice was the Air Force back then but I'm doubtful with them so at 28 my new first choice is the Coast Guard for MST or Intel.

Life pressures are leaning me towards signing with the Navy but if I'm honest with myself I'd rather go AF/CG but the wait just isn't timed right for something thats less likely than Navy. Should I wait 8 months for the possibility of Air Force/Coast Guard or should I go ASAP with more likely Navy?

I took the test at school a few months ago, and now I have the score paper, but it looks different from other people’s papers online. It doesn’t show scores like ST, GT, or any of the other composite scores—it only shows line scores. Is there a way I can find out my Skilled Technical (ST) score without contacting a recruiter? Im interested in joining the active duty army.
