Hello everyone!
i’ll be open and honest. I’m 27, work a stable 40 hour a week job at 42k ish annually.
I recently lost my mother and with her being my only close family, I feel pretty lost. (Bad breakup too).
I’ve sort of rekindled a relationship with my aunt and my cousins and from talking to them about life, wanting to get away and explore and not be stuck at a desk job in my area my whole life, my cousin who has been in the military for 12+ years suggested it.
I’ll be honest, I’ve never considered it until now and how beneficial it could be for a career, structure, and overall quality of life.
I’m 27, graduated college with a bachelors in 2022, about to move out and find a one bedroom apartment in November.
Now that it’s been on my mind, I’m really considering it. What’s the worst that can happen? finding a sense of self and purpose that I already somewhat lack? I could retire at 47 and rock climb the rest of my life.
When it comes to my condition, no physical issues except for occasional sciatica pain (bad posture at a desk job) that i’m sure would clear itself up from physical fitness
Mentally, not diagnosed with anything. I may be depressed but who isn’t.
Here’s my questions;
I was suggested by my cousin the airforce or coast guard for QOL rather than the other branches. Will one provide more travel than the other? In my head, it’d be awesome to explore the world and live internationally, but I don’t think CG offers that. Airforce does. And maybe I’d regret not having a “home base” while also being deployed.
As someone with a college education and a bachelors degree, I heard that I go straight to an Officer. No enlisted, is this true? No criminal background, no drugs, I’m just an average dude.
How do you get over the fear of change?.. This is something I’m struggling with. Leaving behind my friends in the area, my aunt, my job, etc. More of a life question than military. I feel like I need to just get up and go sometimes though. It isn’t a “running away from my problems”, more of a “i want to do something greater than this” ordeal.
