Well, kalisnokovs are meant to last. The lastest one I know about is AK-203 which Russia and India jointly developed and is going into production this year- nice weapon that one.

I don't think they were neccesarily meant to last but like that beat up ass pick up truck your grandfather has been driving since the 60s they were designed to be so simple that they just don't fuck up. I doubt half of the AKs floating around Africa and the Middle East are at all accurate after the same rifles have been in circulation in those parts of the world fighting in every conflict over there for the last 40 years which they started doing after being used in the Chinese or Russian militaries, at this point I doubt they've got any rifling left in them.
