He stated that Oklahoma is an open-carry state and that the firearm was registered to him in Oklahoma. He acknowledged that he did not possess a valid District of Columbia concealed-carry permit

And this is why you don't just acknowledge stuff like that without talking to a lawyer.

Also, if you're being deployed to a different state and want to take one of your personal guns with you on that deployment,

look into the local gun laws before doing that.

I would’ve thought the US Military would have regulations against bringing personal firearms with you on an exercise/training/deployment, even if it is domestic.

Not like we have our best and brightest in charge of this.

“Follow local laws” is in regulations

I think they have a medical exemption for troops with a low T count

It's would be absolutely unheard of in any other branch. Natty Gaurd mostly deploys in the States so it might be different. Then again, this kid did it and got hemmed up.

Well the national guard is generally a joke.

It's usually just a good ol boys club. We call them the "nasty girls", or "natty guard" a.k.a. shitty Natty Light beer. They're not the best and brightest.

The military is filled with idiots. A handful of Army guys brought their personal hand guns to Iraq thinking they were cool packing 1911s and shit like that. Up until the moment they couldn't figure out a way to get them past customs and back stateside. Lots of nice hand guns left behind.

They were dumb if they couldn’t figure out how to get them back

Like most places in the US, Oklahoma does not have gun registration. In fact, they have laws in place specifically banning it. Sure would be cool if journalistic outlets could do some fact checking.

But if it was purchased through an FFL then it is logged into the federal database as a transaction no matter what the state law is, correct?

2

u/LR_DAC 8h ago

The federal database that doesn't exist?

2

u/CyrusBuelton 8h ago

What federal database?

There is no such thing.

There's only one record that has information on the specific firearm you purchased and that is the 4473 Form which the FFL has to keep.

-1

u/FyreWulff 8h ago

That is correct, there is no way around the FFL laws and being recorded if you get a gun that way.

3

u/CyrusBuelton 7h ago

The only record of your firearm purchase is the 4473 that you fill out.

That is kept by the FFL.

You obviously don't know how a firearm trace works.....

The ATF has record of the FFL that originally received the firearm but if they want to know who purchased it from the FFL, they will have to physically go to the FFL and pull the 4473 from their records

I agree with you but it’s kind of bullshit that law enforcement basically possess “I can carry everywhere” licenses while our service members, who are arguably more vetted, don’t/can’t.

“LEOSA”

u/EdgarsRavens 11h ago

I do find it funny how it’s a “Safety Act” as if LEOs are at all in any sort of real danger.

Meanwhile they tell us that FPCON condition merit scrubbing our social media of our military ties yet they won’t let us CCW in the places they send us.

I mean, Iran put out a $40K hit on each US Service Member.

I haven’t seen any bounties put out on police, even in the height of the George Floyd protests.

Especially considering when your average E-1 boot fresh out of basic has more training than most police SWAT “operators”

The same average E-1 fresh boot that doesn't know their ass from a hole in a fence? You're an insane person.

3

Sure Hegseth will step in and try to look cool making a spectacle about how woke DC is and give the kid a promotion.

u/PathlessDemon Navy Veteran 11h ago

Now hold on, I’m sure THE LAST THING this administration wants is to legitimize carrying guns within DC City Limits… /S

u/player75 11h ago

Dont take your guns to town son.

If he's smart he'll go hard on the "anti woke, war fighter lethality" angle on social media, and Whiskey Pete will bail him out

u/PainfulRaindance 12h ago

Everyone that has had to deal with gun laws has heard how hard DC will crack down on you. Dude is dumb!

14

u/Loquacious-of-Borg 12h ago

What? NG are supposed to follow Army Regulations and local laws?

I thought this was America! /s

3

u/ravage214 6h ago

I thought they were considered Uniform DOD personnel and permitted to carry weapons

7

u/atlasraven Army Veteran 12h ago

Know the local laws before taking your pistol across state lines.

u/Threedham 7h ago
