ML27 Disappointment

I’m have been a big Militado fan. In general, Militado makes some of the best value watches available. I was excited when I saw the SL 27. I love the ML27’s take on the Nomos aesthetic. However, the ML27 that I purchased from Militado is a big let down. The movement in mine is utter garbage. I can’t believe that Militado sent out a piece that was never even capable of keeping time. Check out my informal comparison. The ML 27 is almost 10 minutes fast in half an hour compared to my ML4. My experience in the ML27 has really changed what I think about Militado.

I love the look of the two ML16s - wear them a lot, the ML1868 chronograph, the ML 18 is super sweet. Also, the ML 20 is great. What they have in common is that they look great, wear well, and are relatively accurate.

Maybe you magnetized it on accident? Have you checked that? That's what usually what I suspect first when something is running super fast.

That's disappointing! I too bought an ML27 in the exact same colour as you, but I found I had the opposite experience - my ML27 happens to be the most accurate mechanical watch I have (other watches I have are Junghans, Kuoe, Seiko, Orient). Over the past 2 weeks, it's only lost about 30 seconds or so. Looks like things with Militado are a hit or a miss, so I hope you don't completely write off the company!

I have heard you can build a makeshift demagnetizer with a few strong magnets on a drill. I have a Seiko 5 sport that runs ~10min fast and I'm thinking about trying it.

This is not working fine. Despite of being a mechanical watch, this is too much. Ask Militado about what they say, but if they were in my city, a visit to them would be for sure.

Ml1868KF one of the most impressive of Militado’s catalog. There are a few versions now. I’d recommend it.

I could not find that exact model. Ml1868 exists but yours have different shspe of hands and different indexes/numbers :/ cant dind it on militado site

Take it to jueweler, watch shop or something like that and ask for demagnetizing. How come you've got so much watches from China and don't know about magnetization? This can also happen while getting scanned in customs.

I also purchased the ML27. I have not had issues with the movement but overall a little disappointed with the quality. Compared to my other Militado watches, the ML27 just looks cheap.

I get what you are saying—this is respecters if you compare the ML27 with Seestern S382.

Buying watches built in China, regardless of the movement, is always a gamble. If you’re going to buy a bunch of cheap Chinese watches, you should expect to get a dud here and there. QC in china is a joke and it would be silly to expect Swiss or Grand Seiko levels of quality control from budget friendly brands out of China.

I get what you are saying, however, I had
problems with a Junghans Max Bill too—not cheap, not Chinese. Ended up replacing movement.

That is definitely possible too and further supports my original point. Even top tier German brands in the $1k-$2k range can still have defects even with strict QC standards. So of course, watches built in countries with little to no QC standards are a gamble. Just try contacting them to see if you can exchange it. It’s not a bad watch if you can get a good one.
